Wasn't it Anderson who we just signed who had a ton of sacks as a rookie and then has struggled ever since? His statement is not unfair or unreasonable.

I think Jermaine had a good year. It seems like ppl begrudge him b/c we HIT right away w/ GRONK ,McCourty, Hernandez, Spikes, (Mesko) arguably. People see Cunningham was out performed by a draft anomaly in the sense that 4-5 ROOKIES made huge contributions that overshadowed what Cunningham had done. I will wait w/ the guy it is only year 2.

That's a good read. I believe this off season might have hurt Cunningham's development the most. I expect to see more improvement from him as the season goes on. I feel he just needs time, but was a solid contributor last year.

He danced with the right tackle a lot last season. People are overrating him simply because peyton manning threw a pick. I just don't think he's that good, he a JAG. The same people defending cunningham were the same guys arguing for shawn crable and chad jackson. If a guy can play, he can play, and we can tell early on. It doesn't matter whether he's a rookie or had injuries or not. Seymour, warren, wilfork, mayo, mcourty(sp) all showed they could play immediately. You can point to guys like tedy bruschi as example of a late bloomer, but those are exceptions to the rule

I was calling for Crable to be cut the instant he was IRed in his second season, to the point that I took a fair amount of heat for it on this board, so saying that we're the "same people" just isn't true.

And yes, Seymour, Warren, Wilfork, et. al showed that they could play right away... by starting as rookies. Exactly like Cunningham did. They were also all first round picks, which does make a difference, but getting into that right now would probably just derail this.

Cunningham's performance as a rookie was on par with, or better than, those of Guyton, Chung, Wright, Asante, Meriweather, Branch, Vollmer, Spikes, Jarvis Green, Givens, etc. etc. Lots of guys who have become good NFL starters, and a few pro bowlers on top of that. If you're looking for a more direct analogy than that, then you're not going to find one. The only other OLB that the Pats have drafted in the first 3 rounds is Crable, and Cunningham accomplished more in one game (Baltimore) than Crable has in his entire NFL career.

You clearly expect more of rookies than starting capably, even if they're playing an entirely new position. Most of the rest of us disagree with you pretty strongly.

He was wrongfully used then imo. He is the quickest and fastest (if not he is in top 2) in LB's for quickness and speed and I have always wanted to try him on the Outside. In a 4-3 I fully believe he will succeed and turn some heads.

I see Mayo is listed as an OLB that would warrant a question since he is in the middle. Put Guyton on the outside so the BEAST can show you how it is done.

There was no personal insult or attack. When someone begins a post with "I wish I was as perceptive as you", they are either being honest in their comment, or they are not. If you choose to believe that Fnord was being honest in his posting that, you are being naive, by definition.

If you believe that then you seriously do not understand the NFL and player development. I would go so far to say that you don't have a clue.

So far Guyton has not had any success in setting the edge as an OLB. We have seen that he has struggled so far in that role.
