Mankins could hold up NFL settlement

Wow. You mean "Mr. Integrity" wants to be paid $10 million he didn't earn, and is stabbing his fellow union members in the back to get what he wants?!?

CBS Sports says that if Mankins continues this course of action "he may need to move to an isolated island in the Pacific ".

+1. Although I still find it impossible to believe that 1 (or a small handful) of members acting on their own can hijack the entire process. When a majority of the named litigants - not to mention a SUPERmajority of the class themselves - support dropping it, I don't see how one guy can hold everyone else hostage.

Still waiting for any evidence other than mediot speculation that mankins has asked for anything.

It is interesting to know however that any media speculation is actually evidence, John Tomase must be feeling pretty damn good about that.

VJ knows how much alcohol 10 mill can buy

I don't buy this for one second.....

If true...Pats would drop him like a hot potato..

Locker room distraction....

When are you going to get it through your head that it wasn't mediot speculation????

Jason Cole reported it. Greg Bedard verified it with an NFL Source.

That is the knee jerk fan reaction. Players overwhelmingly view the business side and what their teammates do in the offseason to "get theirs" as completely seperate from the football side. You might find guys annoyed today if they think it will derail the CBA settlement but come Septmeber, it isn't even a blip on anyone's radar.

As for the organization, the Patriots under BB never have, never will run their business by overreacting to the posturing and hype of the business side. They have kept guys who called BB names publicly, guys who called Kraft names publicly, guys who held out, etc. if it made sense for the team. They make football decisions and dumping your best offensive lineman because he was plantiff in the lawsuit and tried to use it to his advantage doesn't make much football sense.

this is all a scheme to keep the players out of 2-a-days for the next couple of weeks........there are heat warnings all over the country.......

what NFL source?

Re: Mankins and Jackson

There is no "i" in "team," or even "NFLPA."

But there are two of them in "$10 million."

LMAO-I guess that makes it true. I can't wait to watch you guys try and defend this as a standard of evidence for all future reporting. The NFLPA has been saying for days that there will no compensation to the plaintiffs yet you guys continue to run with idiot speculation, like that of jason Cole and Ron Borges to the contrary. The piece by Cole yesterday may have been the worst piece of trash writing I have seen on this issue since it began yet people want to tout him as some credible source when he actually had both of Jeffrey Kessler's balls in his mouth while writing it.

We have now entered the Twitter era of "journalism" wherein anything written by anyone who claims they were told something by someone automatically makes that claim credible and "true." And while a good number of you are actually embracing this as the standard because it allows you to crap on those you don't like with any rumor as 'proof," I guarantee the same people will be screaming to the highest heavens when the Twitterers" start making claims about those you actually like.

Good luck defending this "standard" in the future, you are certainly going to need it.

Is there a link to something with a member of NFLPA saying this?

I have seen a few articles written by NFL media such as with anonymous NFLPA sources saying they will recommned no benefits for the players. Borges article for example was all based on " a source familiar with the discussions."

If you completely discount anonymous sources, you should discount them all, right?

No need for a rush to judgment on any of this speculation.

However, just because the NFLPA says there will be no compensation to the plaintiffs does not mean that the plaintiffs lawyers and agents are not asking for compensation.

Chester Pitts is a player rep who was at the meetings yesterday. He's been negative from day one. Then again, his agent is Jeffrey Kessler's son...

Chester Pitts says the lockout won’t end for “two full weeks” | ProFootballTalk

Not sure what to make of this as he could be referring to when they actually start camp, however, if he is saying the players won't act on the deal for 2 weeks then i would consider that as inexcusable. Both sides need time to completely read the deal through but that should be done by today and it should be acted upon immediately. There is simply too much at stake for either party to drag their feet or ask for concessions. We have reached a point where the communities that support these teams are about to be impacted financially and it is unacceptable for either side to do harm to their greatest supporters out of sheer greed or stupidity.

I have supported the players from day 1 on this because i believed the owners caused it and the players were willing to be reasonable in creating a new agreement, however if the players actually do screw around on this and drag their feet for any reason then it's time to support the owners as they seem entirely willing to get the deal done at this point and that's what matters. I'll wait for the facts to emerge before taking any position and that may well be moot as it could still be done immediately.

I agree, however it makes no sense for the NFLPA to announce a decision on this if it is still outstanding and on the table.

As for those using the Twitter standard they will still have to defend that standard from here on out, if someone says they were told something that makes it true.

True, but they haven't kept any of those guys indefinitely... Sometimes the attitude a guy displays is just passing bluster (Wilfork) - and Bill absolutely discounts that - but other times it is indicative of a deep seeded disconnect where this system is concerned that makes retaining them long term not plausible. Milloy, Law, Seymour, Woody...they were all perceived as key components and/or locker room leaders at the time they departed and Bill really hoped to be able to keep all of them but their continued contractual inflexibility and their potential to become disruptive lockerroom forces within the organization led to their departures. You could even add Moss and AD to that list...and Adam (although as a kicker...). Festering discontent is kind of like an undiagnosed locker room cancer, it can kill you the same way the diagnosed one can if left untreated. Then again treatment can kill you too... It's like the risk reward balance in talent evaluation... Bill certainly had no intention to move on from Branch, but unfortunately push came to shove and he did.
