and don't forget trades

good point, i forgot about that. we should trade brady for a first next year, then we'll have three first rounders in 2012. thats soo many! eventually one year, the whole first round is just gonna be NE picks. im pretty sure thats what people mean when they talk about the apocalypse.

Evidently, the player the Pats wanted will be there at 33.

The trade is good IMO. There is no guarantee that Nawlins will be picking late in 2012. Atlanta are Tampa are already good and improving.

Except that NO is probably going to be very good next year. I wish the Pats had their draft....

And the Pats will be good next year, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that, and the year after that............ :)

he still gets an infinite number of 2nd round picks...

but your not making the first round pick! Yes you have an infinite number of 2nd rounders, but your not picking an infinite number of first rounders.

than take someone else at 27 and get that guy at 33. OH my god! i cant believe i just thought of that! im a genius!

and if you think there gonna make the pick at 33, think again. they have a whole day to find a way to trade it away.

Kraft and Belichick want an extra 2nd for 2012. We got a very late first instead.

Obviously, Belichick wasn't sold on anyone that was there: Ingram, Wilkerson, Heyward, A. Williams, Reed, Sheard and Bowers. Of course, a similar decision will come tommorrow with four of those players still available.

I suspect another trade down with a 2nd 2012 pick as part of the compensation.

It never ceases to amaze me how so many people for some reason have convinced themselves that the Patriots "never end up using those draft picks". What do they think happens to them? Vaporized? Expiration date results in them being thrown away? Is it really that difficult to look up the results of the 2010 draft, when the Pats selected four players in the first two rounds and seven players among the first 150? Is 2009 so far away in our minds already that we don't remember four players drafted in the second round and six in the first three?

Yes, I realize some Steeler fans have actually convinced themselves that Roger Goodell gave the team all those extra picks because he grew up as a Pats fan, but come on - as fans of this team are your memories really that short that you don't remember all the picks the Pats did make and did not trade away?

The Patriots drafted eleven - eleven! - players in the first three rounds of the NFL draft in 2009 and 2010. Unless fans and media are under the apparently mistaken assumption that the one and only thing that matters in terms of building and maintaining a team is a first round draft pick, then the only thing I can come up with is that people that say the Patriots 'never use those draft picks' are either drunk, ignorant, or just trying to stir the pot.

Get a clue people. There's a reason why some teams bottom out after being very good (e.g., Rams, Bucs, Raiders of the early 2000's) and others remain competitive (e.g., Pats, Steelers, Eagles, Colts). It takes more than just one early draft pick to make an NFL team competitive.

I'd rather take 3 people in the second round, than take one player in the 1st round unless he's just rediculous to pass up and falls to us.

your right. but you cant draft 11 guys every year. at some point you need to aquire star players. game changers. which history has shown you have the best chance for that in the first round. our best second round pick over the last couple of years was wes welker....ironically we traded that one away too.

You really think heyward and wilkerson are game changers? robert quinn and aldon smith did not drop in the draft, if it was me and i was sittin at 28 i'd move out of the first round as well if i was offered a second and a 1st. There is no need to mortgage our future and move up and take a huge risk on a player, we were 14-2 we are only a few pieces away and the second round is where sometimes u find those blue chip players we always seem to find.

if we are only "a few pieces away" than why wait and collect picks that you never plan on using for future years? lets get those "pieces" now and win...now.

Like who? This draft isnt so much different than last years we have a system it works and we seem to be pretty damn good at it

There's nothing wrong with trading out of a draft that is imo the worst draft in 10 years

I have all the faith in the world in Belichick and I'm all for trading down, but it hurt seeing the Pats pass on Ingram, especially after that moment with his dad's message. I don't watch college football and I don't claim to have any ability to evaluate talent, but Ingram just seems so solid. He dominated in college, never fumbled, seems tough, mature, determined, professional. I like BJGE but I would have loved to see Ingram in our backfield. I guess Bill didn't feel as strongly about him.

BJE never fumbled either, and always fell forward which seems alot like ingram to me.

And Belichick is going to take 3 2nds over #28 any day. That's why he makes the decisions and you don't.

The Pats traded down not once, but twice - and still got McCourty. Second round picks from just the last two years include Vollmer, Chung, Gronkowski, Cunningham, Spikes, Brace and Butler. The NFL is the ultimate team sport.

With all due respect I disagree with the 'need game changers' philosophy. How has that worked for teams like the Redskins or Raiders this past decade?

We're not talking about drafting a guy that will be the 48th best player on the roster by moving down a few slots into the second round. Each of these players (with one or two exceptions) have been major contributors to teams that have won 25 games the last two years.

Think about what 'game changers' the Pats have gone after. The only ones I can think of off the top of my head are Corey Dillon and Randy Moss. Now think about what they gave up for them. What was it, a 2nd round pick and a 4th round pick? Hmm ... no first round picks being conjectured as worthy of either of these two.

Who should the Pats should have traded up for? What should they have traded to go get that player? Why would he have been better than waiting?

I'm not against trading up - it has worked before - just curious why it would have been better.

At the end of the day i think u cant talk yourself into a player, if u like a guy and think he's worth trading up for then i'm all for it... But if u have doubts and ur sitting there at 28 i think u have to move down rather than reaching for a player

Please explain to us (and to the jets and steelers) why it would have been reaching to draft Wilkerson or Heyward.

what i meant to say is, if u have any doubts about a player im not sure you can just draft him anyway. Perhaps BB was sitting at 28 and didnt really like heyward and wilkerson? maybe BB is thinking well i have ron brace, ty warren and wilfork and some players there that can step in and play do i really wanna take heyward and wilkerson? when cullen jenkins is kinda available
