It Can't Be! (Update: Nope, it isn't!) The Pats' Draft board on camera??

I don't think it's an eleobrate ruse either. I think that is probably one of their "working boards" that they are using and grades are probably from a scouting service that they look at. There are probalbly several of these type boards set up and this was one of them.

One thing that we all have learned about BB and his organization, there is no stone unturned. So I think they look at many of the scouting services evaluations and compare them with their own.

They're well known for not "belonging" to one of the major scouting collaboratives, but it would strategically helpful to get a better sense of where other teams are likely to rank players.

Those are player grades, but I think theyre arranged PRE-red flags

That's a nice theory to account for Fairley and Bowers, but then how about the low/absent ranks for DTs Taylor and Ellis?

WTH? Check out this image from Tom Curran's video on Caserio's press conference:

Names, grades, in order. And the camera pans. Am I missing something? How did this happen?

...and Tom Curran will never be allowed in the building again.

I didn't mean to suggest that this is the actual Pats' draft board.

Context, my friend! :snob: The first bit was responding to the hypothetical "if it really is their board." But yeah, it did sound too alarmist.

The fact is that wall is a weird, weird piece of info to digest. The team put it up in a place where they invited reporters to come see it, so it can't be anything confidential. But it's also too detailed, current and plausible to make sense as a purely abstract exercise in "here's what a draft board might look like." (It would have taken hours and hours to fake.) So I'm back to "It's something, but what?"

I don't know...that's an awful lot of trouble to go to in order to mislead...on the other hand, it would be unbelievably (and that is exactly the right word) sloppy to let it be seen. Neither conclusion seems credible.

This one's a real headshaker...

IDK. Maybe five minutes to setup a fake file and scramble the grades. Maybe five minutes to print all the fake cards. Another twenty minutes for an intern to put them up on the wall of the Media Room. Whether the intent was to mislead on not, doesn't seem like it would have taken much effort.

The thing is, those grades aren't "scrambled." Green and Jones atop WRs, Watkins and Boling atop OGs...not random.

Well, it's not as if you'd have to scramble them all (and "scramble" doesn't necessarily mean "random").

Seriously, five minutes with a copy of your real computer file (the copy clearly named FAKE) - you leave the grades as they are for some obvious top guys who you're not really interested in (plausibility). Then you add a point or deduct a point (or two) from some of the other guys, maybe change an OG to OT or OLB to DE. Biggest challenge (as always) might be keeping the donut crumbs out of the keyboard.

They could have had some assistant or someone just make up their own rankings, print em out, and put em up. There is no way they would purposely show off their draft board or anything relating to it.

Wow that's AWESOME!!
And look at the grades they've got for the defensive ends. It looks like they have 8 of them rated as 1st rounders (7.9+). Interesting that Bowers grades out ahead of even Dareus for the Pats.

Bowers
Dareus
Quinn
Jordan
Clayborn
Watt
Wilkerson
Heyward

I didn't expect Clayborn to be rated that highly either! Things that make you go Hmmmm.

Also looks like if Watkins or Boling are around at 33 they might be the pick. They are borderline 1st rounders with grades of 7.8 and 7.6 respectively.

I wouldn't mind Cameron Jordan at all. I think he needs to gain more weight but he's probably a more polished prospect at this point in time so could contribute sooner. And BB likes his 1st round picks to contribute sooner rather than later.

As for draft grades, anything above a 7 is expected to be a good player. Check out the NFP grading system here for reference. It looks like there are no 9s given by the Pats for players in this draft. I wonder if Suh even got a 9 rating from the Pats or was he more of an 8.5?

Today on Sirius NFL they had Clayborn moving to OLB and being taken by the Pats at #17. Saw a scout on ESPN made the same pick for the Pats earlier this week. Had 11.5 sacks Jr year. ( Kirk Ferentz / BB link ). ran a 4.75, not bad ( terrell suggs ran a 4.84 40 yard at the combine ). Might have to drop 10 pounds.

While I don't believe for a second that this is the real Pats draft board, its definitely something interesting. Like someone already said, on the Pats real player cards, the grade only goes to 1 decimal place. These cards also don't have any posting's or alerts before or after the grade which indicate an issue with a player, like weight, character, level of competition etc. Even if a player has these concerns it won't effect their overall grade, but it is something that is discussed in the draft room. While I don't think this is the real Pats board, I do like the rankings.

I also noticed my boy bowers at the very top of the draft board for DE's I bet wilfork #75 will be happier than a pig in shyt if this is true.

You would think so, but if this were true I would be more concerned that it got out. Even if this is fake the media is going to be linking Bowers to the Pats from now until the draft and someone may jump above us to grab him. BB may not even want him and that could be his plan all along. Although I did get excited when I saw Bowers at the top of the DE's.

Yes, alarmist would be correct. But now that we've all chilled a bit, we're able to move on to this:

"It's something, but what?"
An early draft board of consensus-ranked players sprinkled with some actual Pats grades. Or it's mere coincidence some of these rankings match my own board.

Well, you KNOW that Ryan and Tannenbaum and Nix and the rest of those guys would be sitting there looking at this and thinking, "No way this is the Pats REAL board. Gotta be some mock up just for show...... But, WAIT! Maybe that's just what he WANTS us to think! Maybe that's really .... Naw... it couldn't .... he wouldn't ...."

IOW, Mission Accomplished.

For a moment, there was this strange sense of kinship, then the cat tried to walk across the keyboard and I lost it. :beersign:

I would love to see QB's in those photos.......This is a real head-scratcher as several posters have already noted.... No way BB and the Pats let their actual board rating by position leak out......

Tarzan (sister-in-law named him), AKA, the "Mouse-napper" (emphasis on "nap"), replies: "I can haz ur attenshun neeeowww?"

I can't imagine that BB is happy about this, and I'm sure that he will be looking for you Patchick for figuring it out...you may want to go into hiding.

IO', glad to see that they are high on Clay from Tulsa, I think he would make an excellent late round pick, he can play FB, TE, and special teams. What is more interesting is that they have Bowers ahead of everyone at DE, I didn't like seeing Watkins at the top of the guard board, you would think the age think would drop him down a peg (or two). I also agree with their assement of Wilkerson and Bailey as being much lower than the rest, funny to see how low they have Watt rated.

They graded clay at a 6.2. I wouldn't say that is being high on him.. He just happens to be the highest rated FB.

The only thing this means is that they're going to draft an OT and OLB high in draft (because those positions aren't shown). Interesting though....

Actually, they were shown in the second shot that was posted.

Except it's well known that the Pats don't use a scouting service. They have their own scouts.

That being said, those could be grades from when the kids were sophomores.

Pats can deny it all they want, but I have a suspicion that this was shown on accident. There's way too much information on those cards to be faking it. thats my opinion at leaste
