Curran is spot on. That is where the offense does it damage- the middle of the field. Welker, Gronk, Hern. NY doesn't have the speed at ILB or the speed in their safety positions to deal with it talent-wise. Goodness. Plus, With Revis and Cromartie, that would be the Pats preference regardless. There may be more schematic stuff he is referring to that is beyond my level of football understanding. Who knows.

What is think is more realistic is that if there is any funneling that needs to be done, Scott needs to pour a couple beers in it and take a long pull.

They are talking about jamming the WR on the outside. To allow for both time to get after the QB, and time to read and react to a run or pass play. Getting into zone coverage at the LB and S positions. NY does more than it's share of pressing the line of scrimmage. This sunday will be the ultimate cat and mouse game. If I were a gambling man. I would say the Jets plan on really jamming our WR using inside leverage. That is their best sure thing, it's a win for the Jets. However, they are banking on being able to play both the run and the pass inside the Tackles. The ultimate dice roll against TE's that were brought here for one purpose. F'up the Blitz. This is going to be a blood bath of a game. Our offense will have it's struggles. For me this game comes down to our defenses performance.......

The TE combo of Gronk and Hernandez is a mismatch vs their LBs, any way you look at it. Even if they take away the underneath route for Wes or Branch (and I expect that they will take one of the WRs out of the game - probably the one Revis is lined up across) the TEs will be open - especially Hernandez. You can't 'funnel' everyone.

So the Jets should funnel all the Pats' receivers to the weakest point of the Jets' defense. Instead of their safeties and LBers getting burnt by just Gronk and Hernandez, they want to be burnt by them. Branch, Welker, and Woodhead? Add to the fact that Cromartie is useless in routes over the middle.

Not so sure about that. When he makes catches over the middle for a fairly big gain a lot of times he falls to the ground but I don't have any problem with that.

Thats not to say Deion isn't tough, he'll certainly run downfield and try to block. I remember particularly against the Colts when Woodhead had that TD run, Wes and Deion just charged up the field like maniacs clearing the way for Woodhead. (Just watched a replay, Deion plows into a Colts DB and knocks him off balance, then Wes follows it up further driving the same DB all the way into the endzone. Awesome. :rocker:
