The Worst Defense in the History of the World...

Bend but dont break is actually looking legit for the Pats.

And there's another. Defense held. Played awful all game but found a way to win it at the end. Held them at the goal line for a FG in the 4th which was the difference in the game, then found a way to keep them off the scoreboard.
Defense stood up when needed too. A good wake up call nonetheless but tracking along the performance of creating turnovers and making key stops in critical situations again.

What? This was against a back up QB. If Rodgers played tonight the Pats lose by atleast a TD with the way they played. Terrible clock management at the end by the Packers. If anyone comes out of this game with a positive feeling about the defense they need their head examined.

You are an idiot.

Let me get this straight...you actually felt better about the defense after watching tonights game?
Given the many and varied injuries to the Patriots defense and the fact that they carried a poor performance by the offense tonight my opinion on the D is exactly the same before the game started. There's work to be done and they executed when it mattered.

As I mentioned, you have a clear bias against the D and are making idiotic comments towards the D.

You really are a troll.

When they win big, you say they haven't been tested for a full 60 minutes.

But when they don't win big, they're awful.

When they find a way to close out a game, they rely on turnovers.

But when they close it out without a turnover, you blame it on the other team's poor clock management.

When they beat a back-up QB, you complain that it's just a back-up QB.

But when they beat elite QBs like Roethlesberger and Peyton, those don't count because they were aided by turnovers.

On and on and on and on...

The defense played terrible tonight. All that counts is the W, they found a way to win. But if you think that they can get away with playing like that against a playoff team with a starter at QB you need your head examined. How can you be satisfied with all of the stupid penalties, missed tackles, terrible play on 3rd down, massive amounts of total yards, etc.?

Given your consideration in bold it would be advisable that you remove yourself from commenting on the defense given you've just supported why the defense did it's job.

What did you think of the defense tonight? Did they play well and take a step in the right direction?

Could they have survived the terrible play on 3rd down, the lopsided TOP, the extremely high number of rushing/total yards against a playoff team and an established QB? Sooner or later it catches up to you. Why do you think BB sounded like he did after the game? Do you think hes happy with the way the D played?

While the defense isn't a juggernaut you have to realize we didn't have Pryor,Spikes,Wright just to name a few

Take away all these guys who are solid against the run and the defense will look beatable against the run and Green Bay saw the weakness and exploited it.....you can't avoid injuries, you just try to get through it and the team did and won with all these injuries to the front seven and you have guys coming off the bench who haven't played as much,it was to be expected.

Give those guys a break tonight, they were short handed

First of all, the defense that was out there tonight, god willing, is not the defense that will be out there in the playoffs. They gashed us with the run all night because (1) half of our DL is out and (2) no Spikes. This allowed them to be in 3rd and 3 and 3rd and 4 all night, which is manageable even for backup QBs.

Second, the onside kick, the connelly return, and the Int return made it so the Packers got more possessions. Add to that a couple 3 and outs by the Pats and the defense was never given a chance to rest.

Finally, they're young and it's human nature that there was a letdown when they found out Matt Flynn was starting.

If they get two of Wright, Pryor and Brace back, and we have no more injuries, this defense is good enough to win a SB.

There is always room for improvement. The fact that you cannot see that the team did enough to win today and the defense not the offense made the necessary plays today is your problem not mine.

The Patriots only ran 15 plays the entire 2nd half. They scored 10 (17 with the pick 6) points with 15 plays, for what they had to work with I'd say the offense was pretty effective.

To be honest, I thought that the defense played very poorly at times, yet took a huge step in the right direction because they did what you said they could not.

They were tested the full 60 minutes, yet found a way to win. When they dominated teams in the past, you complained that they didn't have to play a full 60 minute game. Well they did against the Ravens, they did against the Colts, and now they've done it against the Packers.

GB had the ball for almost 41 minutes compared to 19 for the Patriots, the Pats offense was clearly struggling, and the defense was gassed at times. They gave up 17 points in the first half, but rebounded to hold them to 7 in the 3rd quarter while scoring 7 themselves. Then they held at the goal line to start the 4th quarter. They shut out the Pack the rest of the way. They held firm with the game on the line until the offense could get back on it's feet.

As poorly as they played, we won today BECAUSE of the defense, not in spite of it. They carried the victory for us, which is rare. They rebounded from a poor start and proved they could win a game even when they're struggling, even when they've played some of their worst football, even when things are going against them and the refs are making ridiculous late calls and the offense is going 3 and out.

When the defense dominated and shut down two division leaders to 10 points in 2 games, that wasn't good enough for you, so I have no doubt today wasn't good enough either. But today, the defense won the game for us. Quit being a crybaby about it.

What is with all of these excuses? Can you people just accept the fact that the defense played pretty bad tonight and were very lucky to come away with a win?

You have a clear position. All that matters in the win. We won. The defense did it's job.

That is a consistent, albeit infantile, position.

If that is the only standard, then the defense did indeed do its job very well.
==========

If any other performance measure is relevant, the defense had a really bad game. Belichick has stated his position and will continue to do so all week.

BOTTOM LINE
The patriots will not win ANY playoff games playing the way we did tonight.

We played against a quarterback who had never played, with a non-existent running game. We found a way to make the quarterback look like a pro-bowler for 59 minutes and make their running backs look like the best in the league. If their coach could have figured out one last play, we might have lost the game.

It is late in the season for lessons like the ones the team will experience this week.

There is always room for improvement. The fact that you cannot see that the team did enough to win today and the defense not the offense made the necessary plays today is your problem not mine.

It is pretty ridiculous after such a poor performance by the defense to see people on here making excuses for the injuries and they praising them for coming up with a stop at the end, as well as blaming the offense. The Patriots defense did not play well at all tonight and cannot expect to win any playoff games playing like this. This came against a back up QB who was making his first career start, what would happen if they played like that against a SB winning QB? Come on people, its not the end of the world to admit the team played bad. They have 2 games to improve and prepare for the postseason.
