I am looking at alot of the mock drafts and I see us taking Mark Ingrahm. Do we really need one? I would love to see us draft another nasty OG like Mankins. Then draft a LT to replace Matt Light. Light could play RT.

I am just not seeing us use a 1st rd draft pick on a RB.

Or am I out in the woods here??

I agree with not taking an RB in the first round. As a last resort I could see BB trading out of the pick rather than reaching for Ingram.

Later on I'd love to see us take Delone Carter, Syracuse or Vai Taua, Nevada to add to the mix.

I'm definitely against taking a RB in the 1st round, look what happened the last time we took a RB in the 1st. Add to that how many of the top RBs for other teams have come out later in the draft. It's a position where there's a lot of talent available so no need to rush out and grab one on the first day of the draft

Yeah there is quality in the late 2nd early 3rd round this year. No need for a No 1 RB. I think Ingram will be headed to Miami or Indy since their RB situation is more in flux than the Pats with Brown, Williams, and Addai all FA's.

Currently we only use two running backs with any consistency. We have Morris to play special teams and take the occasional short yardage run, and Taylor as a big closer now that he's healthy, but they play very little. Benny and Danny are just fine going forward.

The only pieces I would add in the draft are 1) a blazer to compliment the Law Firm, who still has the size to run between the tackles, but has more burst than the relatively slow-footed BJGE; and 2) a hybrid RB/FB who can make short yardage runs, operate as a lead blocker, and make his presence felt on special teams.

Item One: YouTube - Bilal Powell midseason highlights

Item Two: YouTube - (HD) Owen Marecic (Stanford) scores an offensive & defensive TD vs. Notre Dame

In the third and fourth rounds, please. :D

We are likely to pick up a mid-level running back before the draft. I don't see a draft choice in the first two rounds in any case.

We would likely go into the draft with a running back group of
Green-Ellis, Woodhead, free agent, Morris and/or Faulk, Clayton and Kettani.

While I'm a big fan of Ingram he simply wouldnt be available when it would make sense for us to grab him, I'd much rather beef up the lines and grab back or two later in the draft.

I really want Ryan Williams in the 2nd/3rd round.

Id rather sign Ronnie Brown. Plan B is Ahamad Bradshaw.

Ronnie Brown has been terrible this year. Most Dolphins can't wait until he leaves.

Bb has said many times that Light can't play RT well... we have a potential Pro Bowl RT in Vollmer... If you wanted someone to groom for either position later on i could understand but if light and vollmer are on the roster next year light will be starting LT and Vollmer starting RT. Thats not to mention Kazur our number 1 back up (and used to start at RT) will be back as well

While I'm not advocating moving Light to RT I do think we should draft and groom a replacement for him.

I agree with everyone who has said 'no' to the 1st rnd RB. I could see a couple being drafted. But not until the third or later.

As far as the OL goes. My WAG is - Light stays and Mankins goes, Kaczur takes a starting OG spot with Connolly. But they still draft a couple, probably an OT and an OC.

The Giants won't let Bradshaw go, and I doubt BB will pay big bucks for a fumbler.
Bradshaw does have some fumbling problems but his talent is undeniable. Rare combination of speed and power and its the same thing with Brown. Brown is having a bad year so he should come cheaper thats why he's option A for me but if Bradshaw can lear to hold on to the ball ala Tiki Barber and he comes at a reasonable price I would love to have him on the squad.

OL is more important than RB. We probably grab a FA RB and draft one in the late rounds as well imo.
I think we all agree BB won't take one early.

DEFENSE first and OL.

Have you watched Ronnie Brown? He is a couple of steps slower and is even less of a threat in the passing game than he used to be. Mark Ingram? Yes, please and thank you. Though I think that the first pick that we use in round one will be for either a RG or a DE/OLB.

Just to be clear, I'm NOT advocating the Pats taking Ingram or any other RB in the first round in 2011. But, I can see how they might consider doing so. Maybe not this draft, but possibly in 2012 or 2013.

The fact that Brady stays as clean as he does has as at least as much to do with his special qualities as a QB (quick/accurate reads and releases, "sixth sense" about stepping away from pressure) as it does with the pass-pro abilities of the O-line. The strength of the O-line (collectively), in fact, seems to me slightly skewed toward run-blocking ability which, in combination with Brady's short game, is primarily why the RBBC has worked using guys like Taylor, Morris, LaMont Jordan and BGE. Nothing against these RBs, but - unlike Adrian Peterson - none are likely to get significant amounts of positive yardage without solid blocking help.

Looking ahead, Brady is getting older. The particular skills that make him great aren't the type that are likely to quickly/dramatically deteriorate, but it would probably be unwise to ignore the possibility that he'll diminish a bit, gradually, over the course of this contract and into his next one. It's also really unwise to assume that his successor will be anywhere near Brady's current level wrt quick read/release (at least not at first).

So, thinking ahead, the Pats might begin moving toward an O-line that is more skewed, talent-wise, toward pass-pro and away from run-blocking (for some O-line positions, at least). If so, they may, as a consequence, need to begin moving away from relying on average/older RBs and the RBBC system back toward more of a feature back setup and an RB (or two!) who can make significant positive yards on their own without a lot of blocking help from the O-line.

The odds of getting a guy like that (Peterson) in the first round are slim, but still generally far greater than in later rounds.

Now, ideally, yes, you'd want to acquire O-line guys who are very good at both run-blocking and pass-pro. If you look around the league, there ARE a few who are good at both - or, at least, had been for awhile at some point. But really, most O-line guys are usually good at one and not quite as good at the other and guys who are VERY good at both are extremely rare. IOW, odds are that there is a distinct choice involved for the team's coaches and player personnel guys.

Bottom line here wrt Ingram (or any other potential first round RB) is that BB is going to need to be damn certain that they guy is pretty close to being another Peterson before investing in him. It's still a much riskier proposition.

Uh and who's Vollmer, chopped liver? :p

I'd say Ingram at pick #32 or #33 is definitely worth the pickup. I'd see us taking a big DE like Heyward with the Raiders pick though. The DL would be real nasty then, especially with Warren coming back from injury for the 2011 campaign.
