WoW!!! Good ole NY Post. Please someone forward this to the Patriots PR staff.

Patriots defense playing likebunch of buffoons - NYPOST.com

"FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- No. 12 has been terrific, but 31 could be a much more telling number for the Patriots than 9-2.

Alleged defensive genius Bill Belichick's group is 31st in the NFL in total defense and trending downward as New England heads into Monday night's AFC East showdown with the Jets here. Only the Redskins are worse"

No worries... even as you write it, copies are being made and posted on bulletin boards and slipped into the D's playbook for the week.

What in that article is anything that the defense doesn't already know?

They are playing poorly right now. Very poorly in some metrics, and only mediocre in others. They know it. Hell, that article is half quotes from Arrington about how the defense is trying to improve.

I bet they was posted/slipped this morning itself right after Ian reported it on his Wed links summary. :)

Ah, yes, the lovely New York Post. If ever there was a perfect newspaper for the the mentality of the Jests and their fans, it would be that one. They make the Herald look like The Journal of World Opinion. :bricks:

First post. Longtime lurker. Hi. :)

I wouldnt expect anything less from the NY Post

But I would like to point out that as stupid as the article was it was even dumber to say they are trending downward. Cleary the arrow points the other way.

Rather amusing how the writer tacked on the phrase "alleged defensive genius" to Bill Belichick's name.

All I needed to know in order to judge the merit of the article was contained in that syntax right there. Seriously, I thought I was perusing a run-of-the-mill hack piece published in the 'Enquirer' or something.

I would take this defense over last year's "5th ranked defense" any day of the week.

However, nobody should be shocked that this defense is last in the rankings considering they don't have a lot of talent on that side of the ball.

First two lines from another article from that same paper:
The Jets' Monday night mission against the Patriots in New England is simple: Pummel the Pretty Boy.

The Jets will not escape Gillette Stadium at 10-2 and with control of their division and conference destiny unless their defense gets into Tom Brady's grille, makes him uncomfortable and messes up that carefully coiffed Justin Bieber hairstyle of his.

Blitz only way for Jets to beat Patriots - NYPOST.com

Nothing like some objective reporting and analysis. Perhaps there's a correlation between the way sports are reported there, and the percentage of their fans that would rather talk smack than attempt to have an intelligent discussion about football.

He's so right. We should just change our name to the New England Buffoons.

They played well for 3 quarters vs the steelers.Thats how they have to play on monday night.

"Pummel the Pretty Boy"?

Boy, with such witty turns of phrases like that, they really do a great job of nurturing the 'Jersey Shore' mentality down there.

Its a hometown newspaper that is known for using little names like that even for their own players.

obviously the Jets are going to blitz cuz that's what they like to do. the question is is the blitz going to come from the outside or up the middle? This article seems to suggest that the jets best game plan on D is the inside blitz. Is there any way to counter such a blitz besides better blocking from Koppen, Mankins and Neal (if he plays)?

Re: NY Post: Pummel the Pretty Boy

Makes no sense. Why would you want to pummel someone so handsome. And well spoken. And charming... and, ok I'll stop there

So would I. At least this defense has proven that they can at least slow down some of the better offenses in the league.

Both of those articles are horribly written.

trending downward...i actually thought they were looking pretty good the last couple of tough games. Shows you what i know

Re: NY Post: Pummel the Pretty Boy

the way the O-line has been playing recently, and with the rest they'll be playing and preparation

blitz from any way you want, and good luck

last game they could simply double moss, and play single coverage on the other guys while they blitz everyone else, this time they cant do that

this time they will single a much better welker, a branch that can run less predictable routes and has true chemistry with brady, and much improved gronk and hernandez, as well as a better tate

ohh, and woodhead and BJ out of the flat
