I'll go with Darius Butler by a wide margin so far, hopefully he turns it around soon. He looked like a player with talent last year, looked horrible this year when he's played.

Didn't we have this thread some time ago? The answer is still Darius Butler and I don't think anyone else comes remotely close.

A poster in the other thread mentioned TBC and Meriweather. I'd have to include them in this thread also. TBC has been invisible and Meriweather seems to have forgot how to tackle.

Actually last week after the Pats won a few it was who was the most surprising player. It's funny how the attitude of this board changes with each victory and each defeat.

Randy Moss. I thought pre-season he would play hard knowing how much effort he put forth would directly affect how much money he would make here or elsewhere on his next contract. Instead he whined his way off the team. That has been the biggest disappointment of the season.

You are correct, there was a thread like this a few weeks back, but I think it is a valid topic for discussion and as the season evolves, people's thinking on this evolves as well.

My list is based on the question of who I personally am most disappointed in based on my own expectations from last year and previous years, and not necessarily who I think are the players who have performed worst this year.

My list:

1. Merriweather
2. Light
2. Butler
4. Banta-Cain
5. Ty Warren

I put Merriweather first because going into the year I thought he had progressed really well last year and thought he may become a star player. Instead I think he has regressed quite a bit and this has caused problems for the defense as a whole.

I put Light in there before Butler because to me the poor performance of the running game has started to catch up with the offense. It is somewhat unfair to single him out, it would be more accurate for me to list the offensive line as a group here, but since this is a listing of specific players, I had to go with Light because I think both his run and pass blocking have been spotty. I am also of the opinion that with Mankins out, Light's performance has been affected by having a lesser-skilled player at left guard, so hopefully with Mankins back in there, Light can prove me wrong.

I think the Butler listing is pretty widely accepted by folks who post on this board. Listing him here is not a 100% terrible thing, since it means we still have some hope for him. Lots of players go through a "sophmore slump," so hopefully a light will click on for him (better be soon, though, just ask Wheatley).

I put Banta-Cain here because he showed last year he has the ability at times, but it hasn't been there at all this year. I can't think of a single big play the guy has made all year. I feel like he plays this spot by default, there just isn't anyone better than him right now on the roster. They need a major talent upgrade here, I think.

Warren shows up here because I think his absence has really impacted the defense both on and off the field. Belichick's reaction to his season-ending injury spoke volumes to me about what BB expected.

Most disappointing is Brady. The others are bad but they single-handedly don't affect the team that much. Brady throwing at receiver's feet, not stepping into throws, that's bad. That's a game loser. He hasn't been consistent like I hoped he would be.

Meriweather has played well this season. Including him in this thread is bizarre.

It's rare I agree with you, but Brady's inconsistency stands out. Part of it I'm sure is a new crop of receivers with whom he's trying to bond, but there has been some happy feet which seems to reflect how his knee may still be on his mind. The Baltimore game comes to mind where Tommy Terrific suddenly emerged near the end of the game after Brady had gotten into a spat with Suggs, a ticked off Brady wasn't concerned about his knee, he opened the door for the old competitor to emerge and send Baltimore home with another case of diaper rash. If we can just get one of the Steelers to dive at his knees a couple times and jaw with him.

Last year, TBC played way over his career norm, so I expected him to fall back.

Vollmer's been nothing special, but I saw issues with him last year, so it's not really a surprise.

Meriweather had some early struggles, but he's been settling in of late.

Butler, on the other hand, has gone from being penciled in as a starter across from Bodden, to being behind McCourty, Arrington and Wilhite, a fall from #2 to #5 on the depth chart, if Bodden were healthy. I've got to go with him.

Darius Butler, no questions about it!!We better hope McCourthy is not him.

:agree:

I still don't get why talent + divaness seem to go hand in hand in WRs.

Butler and Wilhite. Opponents are acompleted over 70% (32nd) of their passes against us and converted more third downs (32nd) than against any other defense in the nfl.

i think vollmer has taken a step back since last year

I gotta go with Julian friggen Edelman. does this guy even play? simply put he's given us NOTHING at wide receiver, for that he is the biggest dissapointment.

Rarely agree with you, but you are spot on in this case.

Ingrham, Wheatley & McKenzie have disappointed
