I never want to see people get hurt, but it is part of the game and these guys know the risks. Even if he leads with his shoulder he still gets fined for launching into a defenseless receiver. I would love to hear what guys like Lott and Atwater think of the new rules. They made it to the Hall of Fame by making hits like that.

The NFL has already given the defense a vasectomy, its only a matter of time before they neuter them too.

OT but: The endzone, helmet-first hit on Heap was disgusting and currently is not part of the game, and the other hit by BM wasn't good either. The helmet hits should continue to be penalized. And I think the policing of hits on the defenseless QB is also headed in the right direction, though it needs to be ironed out.

And meanwhile, cracking the whip on those cheap head hunter plays, which serve no purpose other than ending careers and scrambling brains, has been balanced by loosening up on the PI/holding calls. Defenders are allowed to make a lot more contact than before, including being able to put a hand on the receiver downfield, and they don't have to turn their heads back to the ball as much.

Much like with BB and in life, the league is always finding room to improve.

You want us to tell you when he makes the pro bowl? Will that do?
You can't be serious?

The only reason he made the "pro bowl" is because Ed Reed was injured. I put pro bowl in quotes because the voting is a joke.

In addition, I've noticed he's really starting to take extremely bad angels. For example, when CJ Spiller caught a TD. That angle was so bad and laughable, it made Madden 11 look realistic.

With that said, it's a shame to see Merriweather regressing, but it could've been a lot worse. A lot of people on this board wanted Reggie Nelson (including myself) and he's worse than Merriweather.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd be shocked if Merriweather is still on the team in 2011.

I thought he was added to the ProBowl as a replacement for Byrd who was placed on injured reserve that year?

Regardless, the pro bowl is somewhat of a joke.

Honestly, the hit was bad, but watching it, I think Merriweather just misjudged where Heap was in his arc. I don't think the head to head was intentional.

Pretty much every player on the field, including Merriweather took a bad angle on that play.

You know why? CJ Spiller is really friggen fast.

This prediction seems to be in vogue round these parts now that Maroney is gone and this forum needs a new whipping boy. But come on: he's not a liability and that's just more resources that will need to be spent on a replacement. Re-sign the beast.

I'm pretty sure it was Ed Reed but I think the point I'm trying to make is that he made it because other players declined the invite. As a player, I wouldn't be too excited about being an alternate.

It had nothing to do with his speed. As soon as the ball was thrown, Merriweather started running to the inside for no reason. In fact, my friends and I were laughing at how bad that was. I couldn've ran it in if he took that angle on me.

He's obviously the best safety on the team as of right now, but I think goes deeper than his play on the field.

I think it bothers a lot of fans when they heard Merriweather has been seen laughing and joking around with teammates after they lose. In addition, posters have mentioned from reports that he's immature.

If what they say is true, he's not a "Patriots type player" and that's why I've mentioned that he will probably be traded during the offseason.

All I got to say is Heap is one tough bastard. Got to respect that guy.

He's not a Patriots-type player, but I think BB will keep trying with him. He was benched, albeit for a short time, after the hit on Heap. He put him back in afterwards, where he made a big hit on Mason, which almost looked out of bounds. I guess the intimidation factor is useful, for the moment. Merriweather annoys the heck out of me, though, with his chest thumping AFTER his man has made the first down. Yeah, you got the stop, but what the hell good did it do? Just shut up and play. I wonder if BB gives him this advice every week?

Why is Merriweather a problem, and not those other players?

Honestly, if you have a problem with players not being all torn up after a regular season loss, you should have a problem with every player in the NFL. This is work for them. After a tough day of work, you unwind.

Because that's the only one I know who has done this.

I honestly think that the majority of professional athletes don't care as much as fans do when it comes to winning.

I played golf with a former NFL FB who was on the Pats during the 2000 season (with a little research you'll probably figure it out), and he mentioned how most players talk about money and could care less about winning.

Even though I'm getting off topic now, I asked him what he though about BB and most importantly, what he thought about Brady as a rookie.

He told me BB was really nice and never would've suspected Tom Brady becoming what he is now.

Watch that Merriweather hit again, it looks like he was already launched and was going to hit Heap in the midsection, Heap went up for the ball and he miscaculated and as Heap came down Merriweather already had his head down and didnt see where he was about to hit him.
I know its no excuse and he should get fined and suspended or whatever they do. He has to be aware of where hes hitting but I think he thought he was going to hit him in the body.

So how do you know he was laughing with other players, if you don't know who any of the other players are?

And honestly, why do you give a ****?

This is correct. I've reviewed it a few times and it is nothing more than a mis-timed hit. He should not get fined for it.

I agree about the timing thing. I still think he gets fined though.

Probably a reason you didn't say 2001-2004 seasons?

He was a flop on a team that got progressively worse four about 4 years. lol. A Bobby Grier special.
