Should the Pats lock up Woodhead?

NO, the pats should trade woodhead for a 3rd round pick..... in 2012

If he was north of 30, ( Vrabel, Seymour, Moss, etc ). Pats don't generally trade youth.

Yes, Woodhead should be extended after today [pun intended]

He is locked up being a 2nd year player and at most a RFA.

If he keeps up with this kind of play I think he will get a nice tender before free agency.

I say lock him up... the longer he plays, the more expensive he will get.

I was unsuccessful in getting a "Rudy" chant going whenever he made a big play.

Pretty much. Wait until the end of the season. If he keeps up this type of production, then I wouldn't hesitate to offer him a three or four year deal. We could be looking at Kevin Faulk's long term replacement.

Looks to me like a tough kid that gets "it"
Talented yet Underrated, and has a chip on his shoulder to prove himself against the naysayers............
My kinda guy!

He'll be an exclusive rights free agent after the season. This is his third year. No need to do anything with him because he will be the Pats' property next season unless they don't want him.
If this was his 3rd accrued year then then he's not an ERFA, he's a RFA after the season. But he spent his entire rookie season on IR so this is his 2nd year so he's an ERFA. Which basically probably means he plays for the minimum unless he signs a longer deal.

But be realistic. People think of him as a young rookie, but he's not as young as you think. He has been in the league two prior seasons. There is controversy about his actual birthdate but it appears he is 10 days OLDER than Maroney. So he's not a guy who is necessarily going to be getting steadily better for years.

Having said that, the Pats have had much success with guys who are basically JAGs but fit well here. They often experience success here and depart for more money, unless they are smart enough to realize they are better suited to be here. So enjoy this but don't start buying Woodhead jerseys for your whole family

The New England Patriots list on their website that Danny Woodhead is 25 years old. There should be a ton of wear and tear left on those tires. By playing Division 2, Woodhead avoided the hard hits of larger, stronger, defenders, and has very few NFL carries.

I'm not sure what his deal is? Rotoworld has it listed as undisclosed contract, not sure if anyone knows? I'm assuming it is a one year deal.

Should the pats offer him a 3 or 4 year deal?

I'm sure they could get him on the cheap.

This guy looks special. I know its crazy to say he's going to be better then Faulk was, but Faulk wasn't this impressive early on in his career.

Everytime Woodhead head touches the ball, I'm on the edge of my seat.

I say lock em up.:singing:

Agree, Disagree?

Sure thing. Considering how important the Kevin Faulk position is for the team, we could really use more than one player there.

I wouldn't cut Faulk just because we have Woodhead, unless those early-season dropsies aren't fixable. Faulk/Woodhead/Welker/Branch/Edelman is 5 guys for 2 1/2 positions + PR, which is high but not ridiculous. Considering their importance, I'd rather have that and sacrifice depth at speed-receiver (which is where we'd probably suffer to make room for them).

Are the Patriots even allowed to?

IIRC, I read somewhere you can't redo a contract in the same season it was signed. The Patriots just signed Woodhead to a deal. He was a FA signing (not a waiver wire pickup with us assuming the Jets contract)

Ack. You have a point.

But that is encouraging (CBA changes permitting, of course).

Actually, I believe the rule (except for rookie contracts) is that you can renegotiate a contract once per league year, including the year the contract was signed.
