I'm sure they would take less if they could find a fish. So hard to replace an above average guard in this league.
How are they going to discuss trading a player they cant trade. they probably dont know what his value is on the trade block because its pointless to discuss any trade that isnt possible.
it has nothing to do with another teams interest in a player if they cant get him because he wont sign his contract before the trade deadline.
You don't think after all this time a team interested in Mankins could let it be known? He's a restricted free agent, right? that means teams could sign him for compensation, or the teams could work something lesser out. Ever heard of Wes Welker?
I understand he hasn't signed his tender, but his position is, he wants to be traded. I'll grant that he and his agent don't seem to be Rhodes scholars, but exactly how does he expect to be traded if there aren't some lines of communication available if a team is interested in a deal?
What happens to your pro bowl guard when he cries at home in Fresno and no-one notices ? Screw you, Mankins, you put our team and our QB at risk because you were insulted by $3M for one year or a mega long term offer. The place for Mankins isn't New England, it's on the farm in Fresno with the other pigs.
You could have said that about Branch back in 2006 also. It's not a matter of being "an idiot", it's just a matter of hoping to find the right match of a team with a need that's willing to pay. We found that in Seattle for Branch who was no more valuable to a team than Mankins. We either didn't have the match with Mankins or weren't as inclined to look this time.
OK, this is my last post on a Mankins thread, and it is only to be please beg Ian to removet his face off the front page of the message board until it happens. I can't stand the guy. There has to be more to talk about than Mankins, who won't be contributing to this team in the next month at least anyway
Adam Schefter is an NFL insider and one of the best, its his job to get an idea of situations just like this, he talks to everyone and if he thinks mankins is worth a #1, i believe him because its what hes been hearing.
here is the restricted free agent definition, i pulled it from Wikipedia but i think it is accurate.
Restricted free agents
Restricted free agents (RFAs) are players who have three or more accrued seasons of service and whose contracts have expired. RFAs have received qualifying offers from their old clubs and are free to negotiate with any club until a deadline which occurs approximately a week prior to the NFL Draft (for 2010 the deadline was April 15), at which time their rights revert to their original club. If a player accepts an offer from a new club, the old club will have the right to match the offer and retain the player. If the old club elects not to match the offer, it may receive draft-choice compensation depending on the level of the qualifying offer made to the player
i dont exactly know what happened with mankins prior to the deadline but now that it has passed, he cant negotiate with any team aside from the patriots.
Really though, all we can do is speculate on what mankins and the patriots are thinking, what i think the 2 sides are thinking is in a post above, i think this has degenerated into a pissing contest and now each is trying to see how bad they can screw the other.
The difference is that Branch was actually under contract and thus tradeable. Mankins didn't sign his RFA tender thus he is unmoveable. And by the time he signs it to report for the last 6 games the trade deadline will have passed.

I think that most people following this realize that *technically* the Pats cannot trade Mankins. However, they do have some input into his immediate future.
Hypothetically, just suppose Jerry Jones (or Angelo, et...) called Kraft and said:
JJ: Bob, I know we're meeting next week on that "How to stonewall the NFLPA" seminar, but what's happening with your guy, Mankins?"
BK: "Not much, he doesn't love us anymore"
JJ: "I've got some extra cash lying around and thought I might check with you to see if I could tempt him with and offer."
BK: "Jerry, Jerry, Jerry...you know that'd be tampering. Plus we don't actually have him under contract. But I suppose if we were to be compensated with say, a 2012 1st rounder. I think I could let you talk to his people"
JJ: "But how could you trade him if you don't control him???
BK: "Jerry, do I have to explain everything to you? If you can strike a $$$ deal with him and are willing to send me my tribute, I think I can talk Logan into signing the tender. Then we''ll trade him to you. Logan will go for it - he trusts me."
JJ: Works for me...what's his phone number?
BK: "I'll text it to you...You'll like working with is agent, Bauer. He's good people. Oh, and don't forget to tell Logan I still want that public apology!"
JJ: "Let's just forget the whole thing then..."
So, if a writer thinks he's worth a #1 (and a huge contract), it doesn't matter what the teams think? Gotcha.
I haven’t completely dismissed the idea that they could find a trade partner,” Schefter said. “They’ve been adamant that if a trade were to occur they’d get a certain amount of compensation. Things are going to happen this Sunday that will affect what happens on Monday and Tuesday.”
Anybody have an idea what he means by this in the article?

Good. Let's talk about Randy Moss.
