Some Quick Points On The Ravens
By: Ian Logue

With Sunday's match-up against the Ravens getting closer, I took a look at some different aspects of Baltimore game statistically, and there were a few things that stood out....

I think one thing I would add to that list is the Ravens rushing offense versus the Pats run defense. If Baltimore gets 6, 7, 8 yards at a time running the ball, the the Pats (obviously) are in a very tough position - while the Ravens have lots of options on the next play. If on the other hand the Pats defense can limit the Baltimore running backs to a couple yards or less fairly often, then their offense becomes more predictable. I'm not saying the Pats have to shut down Baltimore's running game; however they do need to come up with their fair share of stops for little or no yardage.

The other thing that would help that happen would be for the Pats to get the lead early, like we saw in the first game against Cincinnati. Giving up a lot of yardage when you have the lead is not as critical, though it can lead to some deceiving stats once the game is over.

I may have a bad memory about the game, but as I recall, the Ravens went for it multiple times on 4th down, and they converted.

They were actually getting 3 or 4 yards consistently, and that's all it really takes.

If you wipe out the first series, you'll see that their YPC was actually pedestrian the rest of the game. BUT they didn't take many losses either. They were methodical. It looked like Nebraska versus Kansas.
