Re: Pats Inactives, Maroney, Deadrick,

That's pathetic.

You know, I actually thought it was a lot more. The majority of those 20 missed games were in 2008.

2010: 1 (today)
2009: 1 (the meaningless 16th one)
2008: 13 (season ending injury)
2007: 3
2006: 2

Re: Pats Inactives, Maroney, Deadrick,

He was out jogging on the field, expect his return next week.

So he's healthy, but doesn't want to play? What a bum. Cut him.

That, pretty much. Obviously Maroney isn't 100% healthy; he was questionable going into the game, so it's not exactly a shock. Maroney's no more of an injury risk than your average RB.

Re: Pats Inactives, Maroney, Deadrick,

I'm guessing that Edelman is listed as "QB"3 as they did in the New Orleans game last year (in other words, if he's up to it, we might see him in the fourth quarter).

He's listed as inactive. That means he is not playing. You have to be active to be the emergency QB, you just don't count against the 45 man roster.

Re: Pats Inactives, Maroney, Deadrick,

So Brace is fit and playing?

Re: Pats Inactives, Maroney, Deadrick,

I see no reason for Maroney to be active. Maroney is one of the troika that plays depending on health. So, today it is Taylor and Morris. Maroney is coming back from an injury and there is no reason to play him. If he were active and were injured, he would be "made of glass" despite the fact that he played at least 13 games in 3 of his 4 seasons.

Actually, no. The third QB is inactive but is allowed to enter the game if needed or in the fourth quarter if desired. [The distinction matters because it does not count as a game played for the QB3 unless he actually enters the game, which can obviously affect PS eligibility.]

Re: Pats Inactives, Maroney, Deadrick,

If a player is the 3rd QB, he is designated as being so when the inactives are announced. And, yes such a player is part of the inactive list.

Actually, yes. You have to be listed as the emergency QB on the inactive list which technically makes you active or at least activatable. You cannot be listed as inactive and then go in as the emergency QB.

Either way, Edelman will not be the emergency QB because he is listed as inactive and not the emergency QB on the inactive list. That means he cannot play in this game under any circumstance.

He must be designated the emergency QB. I've seen nothing that shows Edelman has been given such a designation for this game.

Does he have to come in as QB?

Fair enough (Reiss et al would probably have commented to that effect if he were the QB3).

In the fourth quarter, no. Matt Gutierrez came in on special teams his rookie season. [In practical terms, in the first three quarters, you'd have to, b/c bringing QB3 into the game before the fourth quarter automatically makes QB1 and QB2 ineligible for the rest of the game.]

As far as the "made of glass", another poster claims that Maroney has missed a full 31 percent of all his regular season football games as he is now in his fifth year. Is that possibly true ?
