I thought it would be interesting to get the local media predictions and then have them around to look back upon at the end of the year.

Borges: 9-7

Ordway: 10-6 (can see a range of 9-11 wins)

Merloni: 11-5

Reiss 10-6 (per SVN and Jmt57)

Borges has the Jets winning the division (based on talent). Ordway is predicting the Dolphins will win it. Reiss has the Patriots winning the division. Bruschi has the Jets winning it.

If anyone finds the predictions of other local media, please feel free to post it so we'll have them all to review.

I think Ordway is spot on although I would put the Pats more so in the 8 to 10win range - even with 9 wins they can win this division which I believe will go to the team with 9 wins in a tiebreaker situation.

This offense is capable of winning games on its own if it can put 30 or more points on the board regularly - it would lessen the load on our young defense drastically.

Re: Local media predictions for the Patriots

Since it is espnBoston can we still consider Mike Reiss 'local'?

Back in April Mike Reiss had the Pats going 11-5: Mike Reiss: Game-by-game predictions for the 2010 New England Patriots - ESPN Boston

A couple days ago Reiss updated his prediction to 10-6: Tedy Bruschi and Mike Reiss preview the New England Patriots heading into the season - ESPN Boston

In that column Tedy Bruschi talks with Reiss in detail about the upcoming season but does not give a win-loss prediction. And though they're not local media, in the accompanying NFL Live video Tim Hasselbeck predicts the Pats will win twelve games and win the AFC East; Adam Schefter also predicts the Pats will win the division based on the NFL being a quarterback-driven league, but he does not say how many games he thinks the pats will win.

Re: Local media predictions for the Patriots

After listening to these ass clowns off and on for years the average poster here knows just as much as Bogus and Ordway, probably more

Of course Borges is going to pick the Jets because of talent. Borges has spouting off that is all about talent on the field and the coaching is almost irrelevant for years ("It's not about the Xs and Os, it is about the Steves and Joes"). Of course he never explains why immensly talented, but poorly coached teams like the Cowboys and Redskins never win eventhough they might have the most talent in any given year.

Bogus has been around a lot lately, its like the area media is trying to rehabilitate his image. I was going through the channels last night and some him on comcast? The way he was dressed and the way he kept looking around furtively gave me the impression that he had just escaped from a psych ward.

.....but I laugh my ass off every time I read it................!!!!

On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson or the second-best tackle in the draft in Kenyatta Walker, they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1 sacks last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end. This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.

- Ron Borges, MSNBC after 2001 Draft.

Amazing that Borges still has the nerve to stick his head above ground.

The QB position is the most important position. That explains the Cowboys and Redskins.

Re: Local media predictions for the Patriots

I say 10-6 which will be enough to win the division. I see the Jets winning 8-9 games. The Phins will never be in it and there is no reason to even mention the Bills.

Re: Local media predictions for the Patriots

Not exactly local - but my thread starting balls have not dropped yet so I thought this would be the best fit.

Football Outsiders DVOA projections are out:

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | 2010 DVOA Projections

They have the Pats ranked at # 3 overall and rank the Pats’ offense at # 4, defense at 19, and special teams at 3. The offense and defense numbers smells about right but the special team’s ranking seems a tad high. I thought that their improved return game and kicking prowess would trump their turnover on cover teams, which would merit top ten consideration – but 3rd…perhaps turnover is a good thing.

Re: Local media predictions for the Patriots

They didn't include any won-loss predictions, but the crew at Comcast SportsNet made their predictions for the 2010 season:

CSNNE.com's 2010 NFL preview

Mike Gorman, Fred Kirsch, Kyle Draper and Mary Paoletti have the Pats winning the AFC East, while Rich Levine, Kevin Walsh, A. Sherrod Blakely, Danny Picard, and Joe Hagerty go with the Jets to win the division. Mike Giardi went with Miami to not only win the division, but to advance to the AFCCG. Blakely was the only one of the ten that does not see the Pats making the playoffs. Paoletti and Kirsch have the Pats going as far as the conference championship game.

As for the Jets, Walsh, Kirsch and Paoletti are the only ones predicting they will not make the playoffs. Levine and Hagerty think they will again lose the AFCCG, while Walsh has them winning the Super Bowl. Half the panel thinks the Colts will buck the 'Super Bowl Hangover' theory, and win the championship next February.

Re: Local media predictions for the Patriots

Bob Gamere has Buffalo winning the division at 9-7, Patriots 8-8, NYJ 8-8, and Miami 4-12

It's sad that people have such short memories involving asshats like Borges. Not long ago he was in hiding after the plagiarism flap and getting jettisoned by the Globe. His anti-Patriots act hasn't changed and he's really not worth paying attention to. I never read his stuff and whenever he's on TV or radio I change the channel.

Re: Local media predictions for the Patriots

Serious question: Was Borges punching a cripple when making his predictions?

The patriots have been in the top 5 for special teams almost every year since BB took over. 3 isn't high at all. |

A huge part of it is Ghostkowski, and how much all those touchbacks are worth.

Re: Local media predictions for the Patriots

Smerlas has the Patriots at 12-4.

DeOssie has them with 10 wins, and winning the division.

Curran has them at 9-7, with the Dolphins winning the division.

Kirk Minihane from WEEI has a lengthy column with predictions on the 2010 season for the Pats, and the rest of the NFL. He has the Jets winning the division with an 11-5 record and the Pats being a wildcard, finishing 10-6.

patriots - 2010 NFL Preview: Will anyone knock off the Saints? - WEEI | Kirk Minihane

We'll never see 2007 again, but would anyone be surprised if this team leads the league in points scored this season? Assuming Welker is Welker (a large leap, I suppose), this an offense just loaded with weapons. And if these tight ends are indeed the real deal the one weak link of the offense in the past few years -- red zone -- should be solved. But I haven't seen any proof that they have figured out how to rush the passer, and that combined with a young secondary and the injuries on defense makes me think there will be a lot of 35-31 games this season.

Minihane predicts the Pats will beat San Diego 27-24 in the wildcard round and then lose to the Colts 31-28 the following week. Further on he has the Ravens over the Jets and Saints over Dallas in conference games, and then New Orleans 24, Baltimore 21 in the Super Bowl. Minihane has Brees as the MVP, Revis as the defensive player of the year, Shanahan for the coach of the year, Mathews and Suh as rookies of the year, and Lovie Smith being the first coach fired.

Just heard Shaughnessy on the radio. He's got the Patriots at 8-8.

Adam Jones, working with him, has them at 10-6. He's got them 2nd in the division, behind the Dolphins.
