I'm going to guess the Pats go with five ILB and five OLB.
Mayo, Spikes, Guyton, McKenzie, Alexander
TBC, Burgess, Cunningham, Ninkovich, Woods
Wouldn't surprise me at all if I'm wrong on Murrell.
A few weeks ago I would have strongly considered Williams, but his versatility at FB seems to have been negated with the reps being given to Connolly and Wendell there.
That's pretty much what I'll go with. Given that McKenzie plays better against the run than Guyton does, I don't see any way he doesn't make the team. Alexander and Woods for special teams FTW.
While it has been a while (he last practiced August 11), as I recall there were reports recently that he is close to a return. Players that are close to a return are often on the sidelines, as Cunningham has been; players that have more serious injuries or will not be ready for a while are elsewhere, presumably getting treatment.
Another thing to consider is the position. Even if he were to miss the first few weeks as a game day inactive, it would probably be worth it to keep him available for the rest of the season.
Though IR is a possibility, I highly doubt it will happen. As we saw with Burgess last year it's not as simple as signing another player and plugging him into the position and expecting him to be productive immediately. And I don't see how keeping all three of Ninkovich, Woods and Murrell is a better alternative than waiting a little bit longer for Cunningham to be healthy.
