No way Red Sox make the playoffs this year.

Big three game series with the Rays coming up.

At best we can end up 2.5 behind, at worst 8.5 behind.

I say we HAVE to take at least 2 out of 3 from the Rays to have a chance to make the playoffs.....If we don't we have no shot...

Nope. We NEED to sweep them. Anything less and we have no shot.

Good news is the Yankees/Rays face eachother 7 more times this season in September.

1 down 2 to go. C'mon Sox.

think they need to sweep myself. Would certainly make the run in very very interesting
That loss effectively kills us right now. Tito got greedy by keeping Bucholz in when BJ Slowton crushed him.

Lowell and Ortiz haven't delivered for quite a while now. I'm not so sure I'd be extending Papi just yet.

V-Mart has been magnificent this series.

even if the sox swept this series they weren't aren't going anywhere. no pedroia youk there two best players and beckett pitching like dog **** means forget about it. it was over awhile ago.

Stick a fork in them, they're done. :(

At least they held out long enough to carry us almost to the Pats season.

Tough luck with the injuries this year.

If we had a fully healthy team I believe the Sox would be the best team in baseball right now, especially with the seasons Lester and Clay are having.

Now that it's August it's easy to say the Yankees & Rays are clearly the two best teams in baseball, we won't be catching either of them.

Blaming injuries is lame, you could put a lot of blame on the TERRIBLE start to the season.

you got it, back up the bags, baseball season is over in Boston

Sometimes ... many times actually it's a concept of a team cannot operate in a vacuum in terms of the decisions it makes. If that were the case the Yankees would have won many more championships in the last 10 years.

You assemble the best talent that is available that year and you hope a few players have a career year and enough of the others remain healthy.

Add to that that we traded away many minor leaguers that were decent 4A/major league players that we did not really have this year to fill the gaps.
Daniel nava, Ryan kalish, Dubront are all good stories but none of these guys were ready to make a splash that we would need with a few injuries to key players.

it is what it is ... not our year. I don't blame Theo and i don't blame Terry and i don't blame the ownership ... they put together a good team that just couldn't hold the bridge together this year.

sometimes you just need to give credit to the other teams management ... they are hard working smart people also who have access to all the same info. it's not like we can always get exactly the guy we wanted.

if there's one thing i think theo should change it's his concept of a bullpen. I have ben saying this for a few years now. Use your AA team to groom your future stars and use you AAA team to groom your bullpen. Rather than sign washed up veterans I would rather see more reliever types in pawtucket and move them up and down in competition until they earn a job. Young and hungry just like the patriots use the practice squad for instance.

Rather than use the starter reliever concept in Pawtucket like we use here in Boston. I would rather see more younger relievers starting and relieving in pawtucket. make a bigger stable of relievers...make them work harder ... maybe more talent at a very cheap price.
