No way Red Sox make the playoffs this year.

The Red Sox have been very very disappointing in games 2 and 3 against the Yankees. This series has been about missed opportunities for the Red Sox and the Yankees taking theirs.

I totally agree....The only good news is that TB has lost 5 in a row so even a split with the spanks has gained us some ground in the WC race....We need a big performance tonight from Lester and a W.....Then we need to beat up on the Jays and Rays....

Do any of you Redsox fans worry, or even think, that Josh Beckett will never be the same pitcher again? Some of my friends talk about it all the time, and if I were a Sox fan, I think I'd be concerned a little bit. He's either always hurt, or performing inconsistently. I thought they might let him play out the year before they extended him, especially after signing Lackey. When he's right, he can be real good, but I think his days as an "ace" might be behind him. Thoughts?

TBH I blame some of his issues on the game calling behind the plate.....I know he has the final say but just on his stuff, he still has really good stuff....4 seam fastball (92-96), 2 seam/cutter fastball (87-91) with good movement, curveball (still nasty movement)....I just think he falls in love with a pitch and continues to throw it and get shelled.....He is not the same pitcher he was a couple seasons ago but I don't think he has fallen off the wagon to a #3 or #4 starter......He is probably the Sox #2 at this point (at least stuff wise)....He just need to PITCH better

Have to say. Thought some decisions went against Beckett last night.

the errors didn't help. And to me was well done when Francona took him off. The Tex home run should have been the time.

Having said that, My first Red Sox yankees game and enjoyed the banter.

I have a lot of appreciation for what Beckett's done for us in the past, but he's way too inconsistent. I hope he's dumped in the offseason but, given the extension they just (for whatever reason) gave him, that's highly unlikely.

Sox still hanging about. Picked up some ground in the wild card and split with the Wankees. Given the teams we're trotting out this has been a pretty impressive effort this season.

Tito.. for the love of God stop playing that monumental spastic Kevin Cash. He is not a major leaguer. Repeat he is not a major league catcher nor can he hit a ball to save his life.

I don't think Martinez could throw out a cripple stealing second.

The Blue Jays are a dynamite offense. Their collective ability to smash the home run is something else. With some decent pitching they could be a force in the next few seasons. AL East could be a ruthless division if the Orioles can get their act together.

Pleasing to see the Red Sox respond every time the Blue Jays did. Hopefully we can keep trotting along and the stars return to the side.

I don't think we have a catcher who can at the moment.

I am curious about Salta...Whatever.....who we got in the trade from Texas....He is a very good offensive player when healthy but i don't know anything about his defense....He is only like 25-26 years old so maybe he will turn into something down the road.....

Saltnpeppershaker? Yeah me too... ;)

If you told me the Sox would have all these injuries and only be 5 games out in the division and 4.5 back in the WC at this point in the season I would have told you that you are full of shyt.....This is incredible to have been able to more than tread water and actually gain some games on our division foes during this time......Pedroia might be back next week they are saying and as soon as ellsbury gets comfortable again that will add more speed and another dimension to our game....Our pitching continues to be really good and our bullpen has been solid enough to not blow a ton of games......I really hope Varitek comes back in the next couple of weeks because his game calling is second to none.....Plus cash is garbage....Let's sweep the Jays, then the Rays and see where we are at.....

The rays are starting to get hit with the injury bug now and that is bad timing for them.....We will see what happens....

What I want to know is what Bill Hall's been eating for breakfast lately. He's been balling on both sides of the plate after a few demeaning posts towards his production. Red Sox are right in the thick of it which is no mean feat given these injuries.

What interests me the most is the Red Sox mentality behind the plate against the Blue Jays compared to the Yankees. Against the Yankees it looked like they were trying to hit every ball for a home run whereas against the Blue Jays it looks like they are hitting to get on base... then the home runs come.

Agreed. Hall's been playing some absolutely lights out defense.

Red Sox are tied for the 3rd best record in the MLB and have a better record than the new sexy pick, Texas Rangers.

Rays lost tonight, putting us 3.5 behind in the WC. Closest we've been since July 24th.

******* Wakefield. I guess we can safely assume that this season is going to be one of missed opportunities for the Red Sox.

You shouldn't lose a game from a 6 run lead.

Wow, I got trolled for no reason in this thread just because I stated a fact.

When I made this topic, Red Sox were 6.5 out of first place.

As I type this, they remain 6.5 out of first place.

You stated opinion not fact.

Big three game series with the Rays coming up.

At best we can end up 2.5 behind, at worst 8.5 behind.
