OT: Favre not coming back

Re: OT-Favre not coming back

I will believe Favre retiring when he actually sits out a season. Actually, even if he misses this year, I would put it past him to unretire next season.

I used to love the guy, but now I don't trust him or particularly care for him. I think if he does announce his retirement and the Vikes trade for or sign another QB and he unretires, I will start a campaign for the Hall voters to not make him a first ballot HOFer just because of this crap.

That said, if he doesn't come back, our schedule gets that much easier. As much as I dislike Favre now, he did do wonders for that offense last year and he even forced Brad "Mr. Predictable" Childress to actually be more creative on offense.

Re: OT-Favre not coming back

I've said before that I hope he comes back next season. It would make the NFL as well as our meeting with the Vikings next season much more interesting. But people that can't make up their mind or waffle on a decision are a huge pet peeve with me. Go ahead, Brett. Put your money where your mouth is. File your paperwork.

Re: OT-Favre not coming back

One thing's for sure: Sidney Rice and Vicente Shiacoe are not smiling at this point. There were looked at as JAGS by a lot of people before Favre came along. Their quarterback situation is why I was wondering why, even IF Favre was coming back, the Vikings didn't look at Jimmy Clausen or Colt McCoy in the draft.

Well, the Vikes got suckered into Favre's anual faux retirement and felt he was coming back and there was no reason to look for plan B. If he follows through with his retirement this time, the Vikes shot themselves in the foot. Their window is now and downgrading from Favre's performance last year to Tavaras Jackson or Sage Rosenfels is a huge drop off especially since Favre's gun slinging style forced Childress to get out of his unimaginative, predictable offense. If Jackson is QB, I wouldn't be surprised if Chlidress has him rolling out right ever other play.

Because that worked out so well for Green Bay... The Vikings are scared to death of alienating him lest he decide to ask for his retirement release and start perusing the want ads for another suitor with whom he could seek revenge against them...

And given the financial situation Wilf faces absent a new stadium deal and given the possibility that rookie QB's will be a lot more reasonably priced starting in 2011 and he has Peterson to deal with and who knows, he might well have a new HC in mind were he to find himself in line to land a QB in the 2011 draft...

Re: OT-Favre not coming back

Listening to Brad Sham's hilarious call of the Favre INT in the playoffs last year, I started thinking: I'm sure there are more than a few Cowboys fans who, in spite of Favre's propensity for last minute choking on the big stage, think that their road to the SB just got a whole lot easier, lol. "C'mon, you gotta believe....."

Does Vegas offer Favre retirement action? Odds at this point would have to be like 1 to 1. He's coming back, so I might have to make a phone call or two....

I will believe it when Week 1 comes around and he's on his couch.

ho-hum.

Lord Favre will come back. No way he goes out without a huge presser. No way.

If true... Thank god, overdue

Meanwhile the ENTIRE state of Minnesota's opinion....

State Of Minnesota said:
Yeeeea sure Favre ole... ya we'll see ya on August 18th you betcha!

... this better not interrupt the Brady special on SportsNation. Otherwise I'm going to have to Demolish something. :bricks:

I just heard on the radio that the Vikes are offering Favre more money and more time to reconsider. Favre's ego tour is almost complete. I think he will hold out until ESPN give him his own LeBron James type "Retirement/Returning Announcement Special".

I believe recently one of his recurring goals is to overshadow the HOF weekend...which is upon us surprise, surprise...

Re: OT-Favre not coming back

I really hope so, i'm sick of the Drama Queen's yearly antics, but i'll believe it when its the end of Dec. and someone else is playing QB for the Vikings. Favre is like the un-dead, he could come back during the season.

I'll believe it when I see it.

P.S. Truth be told I had resigned to his coming back and was actually looking forward to having our boys slap him around some this year.

- He's going to play, just like I said in a similar thread last year and was 100% right (as usual ). Feel free to up this in a couple months and call me out for it if I'm wrong this time, but there's no doubt in my mind he is playing this year.

- I'm not going to say I'll throw a party when he leaves, honestly I am mostly indifferent towards whether he plays or not regardless of how much I dislike him. It makes the NFC a little bit more exciting if he is the Vikes QB and yes the clip of the Vikings announcer during his NFCC pick was great entertainment just like his other playoff picks. But if he were to leave would I feel more confident about our game against the Vikes? Hell yes I would. Find myself leaning more towards hoping he's gone.

It's all bull**** favre will be back in 3 weeks saying he is going to play this year.

He doesn't want to go to camp and he wants his name in all the headlines - same as every year.

Camp will end and he will announce his return - same as every year.
