Thomas Welch = This year's Sebastian Vollmer?

With all the Rams' needs, I am surprised they didn't do that more often, trading down for multiple picks, then again, they're the Rams....

Except it wasn't the Rams pick. It was the Redskins pick. The Rams had traded it.

Thanks, but the Rams should have done it.......(trade down which they didn't)need to think outside the box

That's a stretch ... Welch is a PS/ Dante College guy this year.

Yes, he won't start right away.. this is a pipeline project. He just switched from TE.

Yeah, I'll say. CBS Sports has him ranked as the 34th OT and 455th player overall. NFL.com didn't have him listed at all in their top 50 OL prospects on their draft page.

So why the need to trade up for him?

When are people going to learn that the Ratings on those sites mean absolutely NOTHING???

Why the need to trade up??? A Variety of reasons.. Pats wanted him. There are only so many roster spots and maybe the Pats decided that they'd rather only bring in 13 instead of 14.. Pats felt another team would take him before they did.

Take your pick.

Dante got two Academy students for a 205 and 208. I've fine with that Welch will definitely make the Practice squad as an OT.

Welch: 20th OT in the SN Guide--

quick for his size
smart in pass protection
good lateral quickness

needs 2 improve run blocking
lacks explosion
not effective as a drive blocker

can play RT and LT
developmental prospect who's perfect for PS
2nd year will tell

From NFL.Com.. tackle eligible guy??

National Football League: NFL Draft 2010 - Thomas Welch

Welch is a fifth-year senior who came to Vanderbilt as a tight end but was moved to the offensive line before the 2007 season and became a starter at right tackle during the 2008 season. He moved to the left side for his senior year and put together a nice final season. He is an adequate athlete for the position but lacks the kind of initial quickness, agility and lateral range to play on the left side at the next level.

Welch continues the tradition of every non-center on the Pats OL having a vertical jump of 29"+.

it's odd that byham went ahead of his fellow pitt TE dorin

Except that the Rams had traded that pick away long before the Pats came calling..

I believe that Welch will end up inside at guard.

Are you ever happy with anything Belichick does?
Obviouisly we have under-estimated how much angst BB can generate by frivolously trading away two late seventh round picks (#229 and #231).

...leaving them with just 3 late seventh round picks left!

Space - you need to make a slight change to your Sig and add..
Hum to the Tune of Gilligan's Island..

That said, I love it.. :rocker:
