Tampa Bay trades Leftwich to Pittsburgh for a 7th round pick.

Byron Leftwich to Steelers for 7th-round pick

I guess the Steelers are preparing for the impending suspension to Roethlisberger. Surprised they wouldn't be content to go with Dixon and Batch, but I guess they feel more comfortable with a third QB on the roster, and that a 7th is a small price to pay. Wonder if this means they're pretty sure Roethlisberger will be out for maore than a couple of games.

Re: Leftwich traded to Steelers

i say he is gone for at least 4 games.

Re: Leftwich traded to Steelers

A couple interesting side notes:

  • Pittsburgh plays Tampa Bay in week 3, which means Leftwich could be playing against his former team. I would think the Steelers aren't bringing him because they feel they need info on the 3-win Bucs in order to beat them, with or without Roethlisberger.
  • Tampa Bay now has five 7th-round picks in this week's draft.

Why did Pitt let leftwich go in the first place?

I think Batch is better, but not sure he's completely healthy.

They drafted Dixon a couple years ago to replace him. Dixon was coming off a knee injury and looked really good....but maybe he hasnt picked up the offense as expected. It could also be to replace the always-injured Batch. More to the point, this also gives them a good enough backup to Dixon to dangle Big Ben in trade. Big Ben may be in Buffalo playing against us twice a year very very soon...
