Mel Kiper's 4 Round "Mock"

This upcoming draft could be the most important draft to date under BB and Mel Diaper Jr. has us taking a guy with off field concerns, two medical nightmares and overdraftinga DE.

Someone has to ask, is Mel Diaper Jr. relevant anymore?

I hate this draft as well. We will not pick Thaddeus Gibson! He doesnt fit out scheme, hes undersized, doesnt use his hands well, doesnt tackle well, and is weak and gets engulfed at the POA by Offensive Tackles.

I also hate any mock draft that has us taking Best or Mccluster 2nd rd. Why would we take a 3rd down back in the second rd? I feel these two guys are mid rd picks with Joe Mcknight as well.

I know some people are in the pro-Kindle came by I am highly against this pick. I saw him play many times last year and I simply wasnt impressed. He got a lot of his sacks off of great blitzing calls by Muschamp in which he was unblocked. I never really saw him beat an OT around the edge and then sack the QB. This guys production also dropped alot when Orakpo went pro. He doesnt have great instincts and he has off the field concerns as well. I don't think he can set the edge at all and I think he will have problems vs the run in this defense like Colvin did. He gets engulfed by OTs and hes weak at the POA and at shedding blocks. He has the prototype size and speed but I simply dont think hes a good fit for the Pats. He seems to me like more of a 1 gap 3-4 player in which he can just run around and cause havoc on 3rd down. I don't think hes a read and react player and I dont think hes a 3 down player.

I am alaos against drafting Alalau. I think hes a one gap penetrator and that he doesnt play as big as his measureables. His tape and highlights just show him shooting into gaps and not breaking through double teams which he will face in a 3-4 front. I also never see him bullrush anyone. I think hes a great fit for a 4-3 team that relies on speed like the Colts or Saints. Hes a good player just not a good fit here. Id rather have Arthur Jones or Carrington.

Not that I've got either very high on my "board" at the moment, but the second round is a great place to take a "Third Down" back. Kevin Faulk was in for over 50% of NE's offensive snaps last season, and he's been pretty consistent about that for some time. That's easily second round value - which Faulk was. I had Ray Rice pegged in the second for NE in 2008, the Ravens grabbed him and BB drafted Wheatley instead. Finally, Best may or may not be considered a Third Down possibiity for NE, but McCluster reportedly was being looked at for Slot Receiver, which is a second round value the way NE uses it.

Alualu is strong enough to play DE in the 3-4, I'd rather use him as a 3-tech in a 4-3, but he's good fit for a NE multi-front DL.

I think teams were clearly wrong on Ray Rice. The guy is a 3 down back in the NFL even though he lacks elite size which is similar to why Deangelo Williams slipped in the draft as well. Rice has huge legs and he always runs through the defender.

I just dont like Best at all in the draft. He has serious injury concerns with that concussion. He also had foot and elbow surgeries before last year and he had hip injuries in 07 and 08. The guy has zero lower body strength, never pushes the pile, and he goes down on immediate contact unless he can juke by the defender. Hed also terrible in blitz pickup.

Mccluster I don't like because he fumbles the ball a lot and he doesnt run crisp routes. I dont see him being a good slot WR at all. He lacks awareness against coverage and he will be jammed at the line a lot.

If we go RB I prefer a more well rounded back like Montario Hardesty. If New England wants a dink 3rd down back why not take a flyer on Brandon James late who also adds amazing value as a punt returner.

Used as a feature RB Ray Rice is likely to get beaten up and cast aside early in the way of all RBs, used as a third down specialist the way Faulk has, Rice also could have a productive career into his mid-30's. His college career was very similar to Faulks and he reminded me of Faulk physically, pity the dirt birds got him.

As I noted, neither Best nor McCluster are prominent on my "board," though it would seem NE is seriously considering McCluster after sending a 'contingent' to work him out at the last moment. Hardesty is an attractive prospect, his fumble ratio is precisely the kind of stat BB seems to like. With the blitzes coming at Brady so much, I'm inclined to Tonga because he has the size, and experience as a blocker, to give even a DL some trouble.

A cheap shot at Maroney. Lewis timed that blitz well and LoMo had no chance to cross the pocket and get set up for him, I can't fault him on that occasion. The guy beat Neal on one of those too and Tedy used to make Guards and Centers look silly on inside blitzes all the time. Give talented enemies their due, they get paid on Sunday also.

Not quick? His pro day SS is 1/2 second faster than his forty. For his size he is very quick. If we draft him at 44 a lot of personnel people on other teams will be pissed. I don't care what needs have been met as long as we get him.

As I've said, Joseph is def. intriguing; but I'm with Bleachers in that I first want to see our pass-rush need met. If it has, then I'll have no problem seeing him drafted ahead of someone like Corey Wootton.
