The fact that Slater was drafted as a return man with a 5th round pick is irrelevant now. It has to be - it's a sunk cost, there's no way you can get that pick back.

He's an excellent gunner on special teams and is worthy of a roster spot for that reason alone. I think Kyle Arrington also qualifies for a roster spot given the abilities he showed last season.

I'd point out that he may have learnt how to return properly now.
