NFL Offseason moves which may impact the draft

With the division suddenly becoming more WR heavy, it makes me look more closely at the Patriots secondary. Previously I thought the position was set, not so sure now.

Robinson CB Florida State............boom

Yep, he is the classic "play off the line" zone type corner that most posters hate but BB loves...

I'll be honest...I don't project him as an NFL corner. Among the highly-rated CBs, he and Jerome Murphy don't seem to play well with their backs to the QB.

Are you just making this up or do you have something to back it up ? I think there was a little chatter BY FANS about that possibility but nothing more than that that I'm aware of.

I heard this sometime shortly after the draft..I probably cannot find it 4 years later....but as I told another member here..I don't make things up

I heard that the Pats got ahold of info that the Colts were indeed looking to pick up the most explosive RB in the draft and they were leaning towards Maroney that day (I bet they sure are happy they didn't waste a pick on him) so the Pats who also needed a back did the same thing....what kills me is that Jones-Drew was right there for the taking if hindsight was of reality.

Maybe, I have never seen him play but reading his scouting reports he seems like an Asante Samuel type. Smaller, less physical, play off the line, not much bump and run. The opposite of Revis and his ilk.

My point is that board members like the physical macho Revis types while BB favors the smaller, quicker, less physical types.

Pats apparently very interested in Travis LaBoy. He's visiting the 49ers today and the Dolphins on friday - apparently scheduled to work out for us next week. Check out his Combine numbers:

Height - 6032
Weight - 261lbs
40 yard - 4.69 (would have ranked joint 4th with Jerry Hughes this year)
20 yard - 2.70
10 yard - 1.60

Bench - 35 reps (would have ranked third this year)
Vertical - 35 1/2
Broad - 10'06" (would have been the top mark by an inch)
Shuttle - 4.07 (would have been the top time by .08 of a second)
3 Cone - 7.01 (would have ranked fifth this year)

In 5 years (he didn't play last year) he's posted 23.5 sacks, but has missed some time due to injury. I'm interested.

Pats finally make that BIG SPLASH we were all waiting for:
After Jets sign Holmes and Miami signs Marshall......

From Boston Herald- Extra Points:

"New England announced that it has signed punter David King, a 38-year old Australian rules football player who came to the United States about a year ago to learn the art of punting.

King played for the North Melbourne Kangaroos from 1994-2004, and according to the team's website had the "image of being a niggly in-your-face backman" -- "

Anyone who is a niggly, in-your-face back-man is automatically better than the Predator.

He was a big board favorite his draft year. He and Isaac Sapoaga were on everybody's short list for the Patriots to draft. If he's healthy, I'd love for Belichick to sign him.

Some interesting names there, esp. Batten & McCoy as OLBs, Earl Mitchell as a poss. 3-4 DE, Miles at FS, and what would a Pats TC be without a Malone vying for Punter?

Edit: I also saw Steuber's latest 2-round mock. Liked the Brandon Graham & Damian Williams picks; didn't like the Aaron Hernandez pick; Hated the Dunlap pick.

Randolph - I don't want to use a draft pick on a QB, but if he's avail. as a UDFA, then I'd want to sign him.

Karim - 6th/7th-round consideration.

Konz - Why do people place him (& Clay Harbor) with the FBs? He's strictly a Slot TE/Big WR, but a very intriguing one at that, and worthy of 6th/7th-round consideration.

Gettis - I like him; 6th/7th-round considerstion.

Onobun - terrific athlete, but a football project; UDFA consideration. I'd rather use a 6th/7th on Scott Sicko.

I like the Guards Smith & DeGeare, but not the Center or either Tackle; or the PK, either.

One of the better recaps of Patriots needs I've read.

Scout.com: Pre-Draft Needs: New England Patriots

Adam Caplan is excellent; he's one of my favorite analysts. Before our 1-year hiatus in Baltimore in '07-'08, CN8 in Philly had a weeknight, 1-hour show called The Sports Connection with Lou Tilley. On Thursdays during football season, Caplan & Greg Cosell would appear to discuss the weekend's games & other league news. That was the best football program of the entire week, much better than anything the 4-letter network could ever devise.
