Predict the schedule

To me, it makes sense to not play division games during the first two weeks. These are the most important games, so why play them first? Personally, I think the NFL should schedule interconference games only for the first two weeks, and have all teams play division games in weeks 16-17. That would almost be like having another two weeks of playoff games.

I would not want that...

Suppose Brady,Moss or Meriweather or some player on the team whose loss would hurt and they get hurt around week 10,Would you rather go into a game being short handed in a position thats weak against an NFC team who probably would not hurt your conference tiebreakers should you lose? or would you rather be playing a conference opponent which could earn an advantage in the playoffs for them over your team if they beat you by taking advantage of an injured players spot?

More players are injured as they get beat up during the long 16 weeks and more injuries usually happen in mid to late season than in the beginning.

I like those interconference games in the middle of the season

FWIW I had the Pats @ Miami on 9/19 but noticed that the Marlins were home that day.

I can't see us playing 3 NFC games in the first 4 weeks. I would love a week 17 game against the Jets, but it will probably end up being buffalo. The Indy game will probably be in prime time. Do you remember the hype that game got last year?

NFLN said it will be live on thier show this week...if that means anything - I would guess Thursday the week before the draft.

The Only game I know FOR CERTAIN already is Washington at Philadelphia MNF October 25th

I thought we already determined that it is happening today? Today's Sports Center is subtitled "Schedule Release".

I stand corrected, I had not seen that.

Maybe the networks just aren't hyping it the way they did last year. No mention of it on either nfl.com or espn.com that I can see, for example. Turned on espn's sportscenter for the last half hour and it's not on their crawl and wasn't mentioned once either. That's rather odd considering how they will hype anything from hotdog eating contests to spelling bees in an attempt to attract viewers.

SI had this bit put up an hour ago

NFL working on 2010 regular-season schedule; announcement unknown - NFL - SI.com

Basically states that the schedule isnt done yet and that later this week, early next week is the day. They will announce the release date a day or two prior to the release.

Yeah I wasn't thinking it was going to happen today given the lack of pre-announcement hype coming from the NFL, ESPN, etc. My prediction is the announcement will come on Monday next week. Just a hunch.

Well that makes more sense. I thought it was really odd espn wasn't promoting it on tv and there was nothing about it on espn.com or nfl.com.

The danger of the interwebz; one person says something, others pick up on it and report it as fact. Then suddenly it must be true because it's being reported as factual on multiple sites.

The nfl network, was promoting it and had it on the schedule for today, My guess its coming on thurs...

I didn't notice that about the NFC games. I swapped Cincinnati and Chicago right before I posted.

The Indy-NE game takes a break every few years from primetime. It wouldn't surprise me if that were the case this year.

No Halloween, I believe that we are 2-5...we seem to be on the side of tricks(losses) vs treats(wins).

Alright, I'll pass some time and give this a guess. I'm basing this on a couple of things: (1) per Roger Goodell the NFL is going to schedule division games in weeks 16 and 17; (2) Pats versus the Colts, Steelers and Jets will happen during Nielson ratings sweep, which should be from about October 28 to November 24. Maybe it won't be all three, but surely at least two of those matchups will happen then. And there may be conflicts at Foxboro or other stadiums with other events, but I'm not going to take the time to look all those up after looking up the schedule for the last five years. And in case anyone's wondering, it appears there would not be a problem with any Jewish holidays for the Jets to play at home in week two like they had a year ago.

First, here is who the Pats have played in each of the last five years.
Rank means the two at large games when a 1st place team plays another 1st place team, 2nd plays a 2d, etc. AFC means one of the four games against another division's teams from the AFC, and same goes for the ones labeled NFC.

Week 1: buf, afc, at nyj, buf, afc
Week 2: at nyj, at nyj, rank(sd), at nyj, at nfc
Week 3: nfc, mia, buf, rank(den), rank(at pitt)
Week 4: rank, bye, at afc, at afc, afc(sd)
Week 5: at rank, at nfc, afc, mia, at nfc
Week 6: afc, at afc, at nfc, bye, at afc(den)
Week 7: at nfc, afc, at mia, at buf, bye
Week 8: bye, nfc, nfc, at nfc, buf
Week 9: mia, at ind, at ind, ind, ind
Week 10: at ind, buf, bye, nyj, at mia
Week 11: nyj, nyj, at buf, at nfc, nfc
Week 12: at nfc, at mia, nfc, nfc, at afc
Week 13: at Mia, rank(at pit), afc, nfc, nyj
Week 14: nfc, at nfc, afc(pit), at mia, at buf
Week 15: at buf, at afc, nyj, afc, nfc
Week 16: afc, nfc, mia, at afc, at nyj
Week 17: at afc, at buf, at nfc, at afc, mia

There do seem to be a few trends, like playing the Jets in week two, the ranked team from the AFC West in September, the Colts in week 9, etc.

We played Buffalo at home and the Jets on the road in weeks 1 and 2 last season...I would think that won't happen again this year....

NE at Cleveland in week 1
NY Jets at NE in week 2 - are my guesses
