People often get caught up in a big name player yet those players often have a supporting cast that creates the circumstances that allow them to be great. Signing all those players you just mentioned isn't sexy but it would make the defense a lot better than just adding Julius Peppers. I hope we can stop talking about him now.

Lol, its funny to see that u guys clearly forgot when Peppers stated that its not about the money and really wants to be with a winner...right now, he's quiet, which is a good thing or even a Patriot Act. You never know, but i seriously would cut out the non-playoff factor teams that are after Peppers. Which leaves just the Eagles and Patriots.

And doesnt this whole situation reminds u of the Moss trade. A year before Moss came here, there were reports saying that the Pats were intrested. The next year, Pats dove at the Raiders for a suprisingly draft trade. Remember, Pepper stated that he would LOVE to play for the Pats. So now that he's free, why would he change his mind. And besides we definently look good going towards the draft, so that really would make us look even more attractive of a superbowl team and to grab some impact players in this year and next year's draft!!!

A) mentally ******ed if he thinks he'd get more than that elsewhere

B) clearly not about the money. Now I know most people will say B but that's a very risky decision to turn down 14 mil a year when no one truly knows what teams will offer him. Devil's always in the details. Haynesworth's deal was reported as 7 years, $100 mil, but in reality it was 4 yrs @ $12mil/year. So that $14 mil number thrown out by someone could mean nothing. It is beneficial to both sides to inflate those numbers at this point.

I think Tanked was taking yet another chance to knock the Pats rather than say Pepper should give up salary. While that era of taking less for us is gone, I don't see how players that want to win championships demand monster deals that cripple teams. Pats or not, if Peppers really does want to win a championship more than anything, the team he does end up going to will take him at a discounted rate. You don't win in the NFL paying 30 year olds 17mil a year for 5 years.

Also says they are ready to fly peppers down in a private jet. If they are serious about peppers it puts a dent in the pats plans if they were actually legit about signing pep. Only way he ends up in NE is if he seriously wants to win now, which I suspect he really does, and is not all about money, which I also suspect since he didn't take that lucrative deal from Carolina.

Why would they do this? They brought in a new GM and Shanny to do exactly the opposite of whats been done there.

Well I feel sorry for any fanbase including us if their team is stupid enough to sign the guy to a long term deal worth more than 14 mil a year. Hell I'm fine with us paying Peppers 50 mil this year as long as we keep him under control for future cap ramifications (assuming the cap comes back)

Not being about the money and taking 7M instead of 14M are two different things.

He said he turned down the jags before because although they would have made him the highest paid defensive player, "it wasn't by much". Yep, sounds like he's not about the money.

He'd love to play for the pats, if we'd pay him 10M per year at least.

The problem is, monster deals don't cripple teams like they did when the Pats were winning championships. In a span of 10 years, we went from having a salary cap of $64M to a salary cap of $128M to no salary cap at all. The advantage the Pats had by getting players to take less is gone.
