Haden 4.6 in 40?

I wonder how far he really will fall? I don't think he will because he can run something fast at his pro day, but it's fun to think about.

When is Florida's proday? I am interested in what Spikes runs

They have a lot of day 1 athletes this year. I hope there is some significant coverage

Haden's a stud cover corner. No way you should take too much stock on his 40 time during the combine. Anyone that who has seen Florida play knows what kind of cover corner this kid is and what kind of speed he has during games. If he's still there when we pick, I can't see how we pass him up.

He was a good cover in corner in college who played behind a front 7 featuring Dunlap, Cunningham, and Spikes. The high 4.5's time is a concern especially for an average sized CB. There is not a really good cover CB in the league right now who is under 5'11 and runs in the high 4.5's.

I certainly think Haden can be a solid player if that is his true speed, but I don't think he can be elite.

Agreed. He's 5'11 and ran a 4.57 and 4.6. That's makes him seem like more of a FS. If this is his true speed, he will slide in the draft significantly b/c he is not a true shutdown corner, regardless of what he did in college.

You can even look at some of the bigger and physical corners who were 1st round picks:

Nnamdi Asomugha 4.45 at 6'2
Antonio Cromartie 4.38 at 6'2
Charles Woodson 4.4 at 6'1
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie 4.33 at 6'2
Aqib Talib 4.47 at 6'1
Champ Bailey 4.28 at 6'0
Chris Gamble 4.45 at 6'1
Quentin Jammer 4.42 at 6'0
Antoine Cason 4.45 at 6'0
Carlos Rogers 4.44 at 6'0

Even Sean Smith ran a 4.5 at 6'3 who went in the 2nd round.

At 5'11, 4.6 is very slow. Some other 5'11 guys: Vontae Davis 4.49, Darrelle Revis 4.38, Leon Hall 4.38, Jonathan Joseph 4.31, Nate Clements 4.38.

Antrel Rolle ran a 4.5 at 6'0 and has been moved to safety b/c he couldn't hold up at CB.

I know Deion Sanders made a comment about Haden's starting stance and how it was horrible, so that could have had an effect on his time. It will be interesting to see how he performs at his Pro Day. If he continues to run at around the same times, I don't see how he goes in the first 15 picks. It also didn't help that his hips looked kind of tight in some of the drills.

While I agree that 4.6 is relatively slow for a cover corner, he plays fast when he's got all his pads on. I can only go by what I saw during games, and Haden, for the most part of the games he played that I saw, always looked like he was the fastest and quickest guy on the field. And the fact that he played in the SEC speaks a good deal that he still stood out amongst all speed in that conference.

Perhaps Haden could shave some time off his 40 with proper training by his pro day. But that doesn't really bode well for him to have bad form. The reason Sanders was so successful was that he instinctively knew how to shave off time so that he could react and cut faster than any other player on the field.

That's part of what he teaches at Prime Time U. A school that our very own Darius Butler attended and excelled in - leading to his drafting by the Pats in early round 2.

Indeed. When I next see a cornerback begin a play from a sprinter's stance, I'll officially start being concerned.

That's what is weird. I only saw him a handful of times, but he looked pretty solid when I did see him. I was looking for some clips on youtube and came across this. I posted it earlier in the thread, but I'll post it again because it is a little troubling to see how Lafell basically took him to the woodshed in 08.

YouTube - Haden vs Lafell

You can see the tight hips when Lafell makes some cuts and how Haden just looks lost at times. He also got beat deep by Lafell but grabbed the jersey and got called for interference. Again, could've just been a bad day, but there's really no other tape available to us to make that judgment.

I'm not too concerned for Haden yet, but I will be if that time doesn't improve at his Pro Day. He could've just had a bad day. He could just have to fix his starting stance. It will definitely be something to watch for. If he can't get into the 4.4's, I think he's in seriously trouble and can't be considered a great cover corner prospect. Rolle had the same issue coming out of Miami where he ran a 4.5 forty and failed as a CB but was moved to safety.

Talk about a guy that was on everyone's draft boards and has seemed to disappear a bit. For a second I had totally forgotten about the guy.
