Leon Washington tendered at 2nd round level...

Considering the Pats have 3nd rounders and are not likely to hit on all 3 I too would do it in a heartbeat.

Good thinking. But we need to be sure to trade the 2nd round pick that we'd miss on!

Is there any reason we can't have him be a receiver full-time?

Why would you want him as a WR full time? You have some weird radical ideas. He's never played WR and has no experience running routes and even if he were to be a WR he would only be a slot WR. We already have Welker and Edelman who fill that role. Just b/c he is good at catching balls out of the backfield doesn't mean he would be a good WR fulltime.

He is the perfect type of back to bring in in the Faulk role where you give him some handoffs and some dump offs and screens. I don't really think Leon is worth a 2nd round pick. We need a legitimate #2 WR across from Moss, not Leon.

im all for the pats geting any player that will help them win but i think they can get best, at RB in the 2th round he can do some of the same stuff. and will not cost as much money.

Is Leon Washington ENOUGH of an upgrade over Faulk to merit a 2nd round pick? I'd rather look for a possible feature back if I'm spending that high of a pick.

Imagine this... Kevin Faulk AS the feature back. I'm not a football genius but at the least, it would provide a lot less predictability on offense. Blitz pickup, recieving AND running. Plus, I think he can handle the beating. Let the idea marinade...

I've always been impressed with Leon, and like some others have said, if healthy, I'd easily give up a second rounder.

Pre-injury Washington? I'd sign him to an offer sheet without a moment's hesitation if all it would cost is a 2nd rounder. Of course, the Jets would never have tendered a pre-injury Washington at a 2nd round level.

Post-injury Washington? A horrific connective tissue injury in a running back's knee? A running back whose entire skill set is dependent on his ability to make quick cuts? I'm a pessimist in regards to Welker, and I think it's a similar thing. I don't think Washington will be the back he was prior to the injury. He'll still have his hands, but what made him special was his shiftiness and that will be gone.

I wouldn't take the risk. Not for a 2nd rounder.

You haven't been a Patriots fan very long, have you? They tried this with Faulk a decade ago. It didn't work then and they needed to bring in Antowain Smith. It won't work now, 10 years later.

We need to resign Kevin Faulk , more than worry about a guy coming off maj knee/leg inj...

Not sure this is even debatable. Sproles is a good talent, but too pricey (at least we assume). Washington is an excellent talent, but suffered a severe injury with major questions about his future.

I'm a bit weary of singing Jets RBs as they have one of the best run blocking offensive lines in the league, we don't.

RBs stats can be inflated in that system.

So you're tired of signing Jets RB's?

I'd be tempted to go after him, but I think the Jets would match.

Our resident friendly Jets fan brought up a good point.

Why can't we just 'poison pill' our offer?

Thats if we are willing to pony up a 2nd rounder in the first place that is.

The Kevin Faulk role has been essentially a starters spot in the last few years anyhow - what with all the spread/shotgun formations we've seen.

If we can get an all-clear on the injury side he'd be well worth a second rounder (people have a tendency to over-rate draft pick value, especially at this time of year).

Leon broke his leg, welker sheded his knee.

I'm sure there will dozens of targets.

Please list ALL the dozens who changed teams last year.
Please list ALL the 2nd round tender players that switched last year.
Please list ALL the RFA's that the patriots have secured under Belichick.

The lists are very short.

If we can get one player through the RFA process, that would be a major event. It is NOT a matter of choosing which of the dozens to take as an RFA. If there are three such players, all the better.

Depends on who else is tendered at the 2nd round level. I want to see what guys like Floyd, Marshall, Merriman, Austin, V-Jax, Edwards, etc. are tendered at. I like Leon Washington, but I have to think there will be some guys more worthy of going after than him, especially with a few DE/OLB and WR on the market.

Wow. I have been a Pats fan for about 20 years and I think it could work now. Granted, if the Patriots have run the same offense for the last decade and Faulk hasn't improved as a player, then I completely agree with you. Way to step out of the time machine and make an assumption.

BTW, I checked the roster and we don't have Antowain Smith...

i am not giving the Jets anything...not our second rounder, 4th rd, 5th...nothing. I would rather have Sproles

Hoping for another serious injury to the star quarterback, are we?

I'm the OP of this thread, but I've been thinking this, too. Not so much as an anti-dealing with the Jets issue, but just in terms of the player and compensation. I'd love to get Sproles, and all he'd cost is the money. Still, I wouldn't mind getting Washington, and would definitely consider giving up one of three 2nd rounders to do so.

Leon may be my favoritest non-Pat in the league these days. I just love his game and how scary he is with the ball as a RB and KR. He kept the Pats out of the playoffs in 2008 as much as anyone in the league not named Pollard, IMO. I hope for his sake, but not the Jets, that he comes back as strong as before. If he comes to the Pats I might crap myself with joy.

How funny would it be if the Jets lose both Washington and Jones. Yes, Shonne Green looked great in the playoffs, but will he be able to carry the rock fulltime for an entire season? The only reason Sanchez stopped being an INT machine was the Jets were able to run the ball 40-50 times a game and have Sanchez throw less than 20 times which allowed the playaction to keep the defenders from rushing him. If the Jets lose that powerhouse run offense, they could quickly drop to a sub .500 team again.

I wouldnt have a problem with BB making an offer, just as long as Faulk has already been resigned. He, imho, is a priority signing this offseason
