This is why I keep you around. You must have a stand-up routine to make Bob Hope envious.I'd rather that Bill had awoken in time to sign Matt Coke Zero Jones & Dante Stallworth.

I thought this was a joke until I actually read the Globe piece. Hope you are right, Whiza. Or maybe he wants him as a player/coach? I just really hope this isn't a sign of how the Pats are going to play this off season, ie. as spendthrifts!
Yeah. Twelve years in the NFL and out of football for a year - possibly a player/coach for camp or for retirement as a Pat. God help us if he's good enough to make the final 53-man for 2010.
BTW - again, as of November 7th last season, well after the Seymour trade, the Pats were still at about 96% of the cap (within a couple $million of the Skins). Maybe the Pats "don't pay" guys like Randy (or Asante or, probably, Vince) the top-end money, but their cap space is going SOMEwhere and it isn't ALL going to Brady. Anyway, it obviously doesn't matter how many gazillions of $$ Kraft has, if the cap's used up, that's all he can do.
1) A WR 3 years older than Patten made the team last year. True. Not that it worked out so well.
2) Stanback and Aiken were in the WR rotation almost all year. Which has always seemed like a fairly poor contingency plan to me.
Patten could be a better roster player than Stanback. That's not saying a whole lot. In any case, he certainly could take Welker's spot for awhile. "Spot", yes. In terms of effectiveness in the offense, both Patten and Edelman seem like significant downgrades to me. All I'm saying is that, if Patten makes the roster as the #2 or #3 WR, then we've failed to acquire the talent that we should have and that seems to be available in this draft.

3) Moss had been paid $20M over the last couple of years. That seems like top-end money to me. I believe I did say "may not" rather than "don't."
4) I believe that the patriots will offer Wilfork top-end NT money (certainly top 5). And it all depends on whether Wilfork accepts the offer. If he doesn't and the Pats don't pony up more, we'll once again hear how the Pats/Krafts are "cheap." Which is certainly NOT the case and, of course, my point.
