Vince Wilfork...on WEEI...

interesting timeline:

Feb 11, 2009: Wilfork is wondering just what the deal is - The Boston Globe

Feb 21, 2009: Wilfork, Pats talking contract - BostonHerald.com

minicamp: Despite unhappiness with contract, DT Wilfork reports to Pats' minicamp

august: No progress with Vince Wilfork contract talks - Reiss' Pieces - Boston.com

you can see how the straight line draws to this point in time........several things you can take from the articles.......he obviously overestimated his faith in this organization and he is angry about that now......

you can make the CBA issue an argument if you were talking about manning or brady.....but a deal for wilfork will not be upsettting any salary structure for this team

I belive that Kraft has not been willing to extend Seymour, Wilfork, Brady and Mankins until there is more clarity on the CBA. I agree with Kraft that these are major team commitments with major financial effects. The team has chosen to negotiate and extend other players at an even more rapid rate than in the past. These contracts are relatively noise compared with big four.

Yes, over the past year Seymour, Wilfork, Brady and Mankins all have a "right" to feel excluded. But then, everyone has a right to their feelings.

You and I disagreed with how the team treated Seymour. I suspect that when Wilfork is franchised, and then signs a Samuel-type contract this year, you may think we could have treated him better. Mankins will be here unless someone ponies up a 1st and a 3rd.

Brady is Brady and he will do fine. None of the others is in close to the situation as Brady.

I've really got no dog in this fight as of right now. It's clear what the Patriots are doing, and it's clear that no (or at least almost no) established, elite players in the NFL like the franchise tag. It will play out, and that will be when I concern myself with it. For now, it's just fodder for team building questions.

But it's foolish for people to think that this sort of stuff can't lead to bitter feelings. We've seen it too often with other Patriots players for posters to be able to justify such naivete.

LOL! What world do you live in? There are plenty of money grubbing whores who have far better lives than Wilfork.

You have no idea what motivates Wilfork. Neither do I or anyone else other than Wilfork and the people close to him. The fact that you think you do is a little disturbing and if I was Wilfork and I found out about it, I might seek a restraining order.

The fact of the matter is that many players who have great values are only interested in getting paid after they get a ring. It doesn't make them bad people. They may just want to make sure their families have the best that he can possibly provide them. You can be greedy in contract negotiations and not be a bad person.

Personally, if money is the only thing that motives Wilfork right now, I wouldn't think less of him as a person. Unlike most people on this board, I understand that a players' career is short and he should try to get all he can. If he can get more elsewhere, good for him. As a fan, I hate it. As a person, I get it.

Again, we don't know what the negotiations are. Are the Pats unreasonable? Is Wilfork? Are both? None of us know and it is stupid to suggest otherwise. The Pats say they will come to the bargaining table with the players they want to resign in a week or two. There is no reason to believe that hopes for a long term deal are gone.

I can go by how wilfork has carried himself as a person since he was in college......you on the other hand, have nothing to go on.....pure assumption

one can also go by the way the pats have handled players in the past......

when did the pats say they are coming to the table in a week or 2? who told you

The pats will start making offers to free agents in the next week or two. It is NOT at all clear that Wilfork, Mankins and Brady will be included in this first group of negotaitions.

in what way has this been communicated?

the one thing that is probably under wilforks skin the most is the deal they gave kaczur..........I am still scratching my head over that

Wilfork can have the kind of deal given to Kaczur anytime he wants to sign.

The reality is that a contract with Wilfork is a much bigger investment that one to Kaczur. At least Wilfork should expect that do be true. If Wilfork wanted to whine, the time was last year.

but the fact that they extended a marginal starter for that kind of money (although I see little is guaranteed)

you are right, but in this day and age, appearance is everything.....

he did express some frustration, but a year ago, he handled it like a professional............guess that was a mistake

You can? You have tons of exposure to the guy's personal life? Really?!? You have nothing but what you read in the papers and on TV which is next to nothing into the person Wilfork is. Again, Tiger Woods was a great guy and a family man until it got out that he has cheated on his wife more times than he has swung a golf club. I don't think Wilfork is Woods, but we have no idea what type of person he is or what motivates him. To most of the country, he is considered a dirty player and there is evidence to support that no matter how much I disagree with it.

I can go on with how the Pats handled players in the past and I can point to Moss, Brady, Welker, Adalius Thomas, Rodney Harrison, Seymour, and several others who got either market deals or above market deals for every Branch or Samuel.

As for who told me that the Pats were waiting to early February. I read it here:

Bodden and his former agent chose to add a clause in his Pats contract that did not allow the team to place a franchise tag on him, which would limit his mobility in the potentially uncapped year. Without a cap, Bodden would be sure to get his market value from the highest bidder, not just the team that could fit him under its cap.

The Patriots could still be a contender, but Bodden, like all the players with expiring contracts, were told by Belichick that they would hear from the club by early February.

I never said Belichick was a great guy. In fact, I think he is kind of a jerk. It is probably what in part makes him a good coach.

Woods is not a meaningless comparison because it shows that public personas and what a person really is are not always the same. Wilfork could be a great guy, but he also could be a scumbag. Neither of us know the guy and neither of us know for sure. I am sure he is nowhere near Tiger Woods, but I am willing to bet he isn't the saint you make him out to be.

Again, the people who think Wilfork is a dirty player have video evidence to back up their argument (an elbow to Losman's knee and a finger in an o-lineman's eye).

woods is about as meaningless a comparison as the dali lama.....

and yeah.......wilfork is dirty........so what? you forgot about him giving jonas jennings a concussion by breaking jennings' helmet with a head butt....who cares.....its football the way it should be played

I'm honestly shocked this Robo guy keeps responding to this tanked guy. I haven't seen an iota in substance in one of his posts in the entire thread, just vitriol and conjecture.

What's the point?

as opposed to the endless stream of information your posts produce.......have kool-aid......will share:rocker:

Sorry, I get suckered into these fights all the time.

You're only making my point for me. A canned kool-aid response to a poster you probably don't recognize because I pointed out your posts lack content.

I don't have any personal problem with you, dude, I just don't understand your posting style. You seem to get upset when people disagree with you, routinely insult them, yet bring nothing of any substance to the table. I haven't read a single one of your posts in this thread and gotten anything from it, which is odd considering how many of them you've made.

I mean no offense when I say any of this, it's just what I've noticed. Plenty of people on this forum disagree with the way Belichick has done something or other without coming off even close to the way you do. What's the point?

If you conceed Wilfork is dirty doesn't that go directly against your claims about his character and principles? I don't know many people who have great character and principles and plays the game dirty.

there are lots of players who commit themselves one way on the field and another way off of it.......its all in the fabric of how committed you are to do your job

the fact is that everyone in the pile is dirty

cool......if I am making my point for you, then why are you even posting? just to state the obvious?

please.........there's an ignore button.....feel free to use it

I'm just asking you why you're a crappy poster. You obviously don't have to answer that question if you don't feel comfortable doing so.

And why would I put you on ignore? Nothing you say bothers me. I thought maybe you could benefit from some free advice about your posting style. You definitely don't have to take it.
