Dean Pees job had with little to work with

It goes both ways. Yes, the Patriots have had a dropoff in defensive talent due to age and players leaving, but Pees never really did anything to improve the defense. How many times did we complain about our scheme being vanilla and boring, and that we wanted it to be more aggressive?
Every fan wants the defense to be more aggressive. That doesn't mean they are right, or it would be better.

Bill was talking to the defense ... and he had the same results as Pees ...

Blaming Pees for lack of adjustments is wrong ... Bill is in on all calls.

They did not have the players to make the adjustments ... players that were effective in multiple roles.

The truth is we have played very good defense for the last 4 years, except when we are overmatched by the opponent. Unfortunately, there are an increasing number of teams that overmatch us.

The Pats were 5th in the most important stat in the NFL for a defense, which is points allowed. Yet very few here would say that the Pats defense was top 5 in talent.

Pats rankings in points allowed since 2006.
06 2nd
07 4th
08 8th
09 5th

I don't know how many times I have to point this out, but Points Allowed is not a measure of defense. Everything contributes to Points Allowed, from Offense, Special teams, Time of Possesion, etc.

**** LeBeau, former DC of the Steelers, also ran a 3/4 but his version attacked the offense relentlessly. Pees ran the "bend but dont break/ read and react" 3/4 (more like the original Bullough version). BB has been successful with the latter both with the Giants, the Jets and now the Pats.

The NFL is a changing organism. Especially the rules as to defending the pass. Even the NFL of 5 years ago is a different game than it is today. The fact that something worked 5 years ago doesn't mean it will work today, in a more pass-centric NFL.

He's healthy enough to consider taking a job in the thin air of Denver.

I think the STESS of sitting back and playing coverage will get him before the thin air!

I kno my mind isn't the best with memory, but pree 2005, does anyone remember seeing our DBs play so deep off the CBs? Am I trippin thinking we didn't? Just curious.

We didn't because A) one of our CB's was Ty Law and B) pre-2004 was also pre-Illegal Contact.
