Reiss: Has Brady lost the Mariano mystique?

Re: Reiss:Has Brady lost the Mariano mystique?

I considered this and then I rejected it.

I think poor play calling on offense is his much bigger problem.

The offense is totally predictable, and that predictability means the players are not going to perform optimally.

That is what Lito basically said.

Re: Reiss:Has Brady lost the Mariano mystique?

Your knock against Reiss is taken but this is making me scratch my head. You wouldn't give importance to the thoughts of a NFL PLAYER and equate his comments on seeing football film to the same as the fans on this board of whom you can bet 99% have never played professional football??

eye opening indeed.

NYC - good comments; I don't get the snobishness some fans have in dismissing someone by justifying "he is such such or he is not such such, therefore he doesn't matter". It's just a mean attitude towards others.

A wise man once said, "in a group of three, there is always someone to teach me of something".

snarkometers on please

Of course he has lost that mystique. Hell it's been what over 3 months since he led his team to two touchdowns in the last 5 minutes to beat division rival Buffalo. What a bum.

To be fair to brady. he did have his go to guys every yr. Branch, brown even caldwell and gaffeney .Its jst that they were not marquee guys like moss.
Remember when the pats won those SB's everyone always had their head scratching how they win with average players probably none of whom will be in the hall of fame ? Media used to throw out the line "They dont make mistakes" which always bothered me . because they never credited the players who were playing much.
Now they turn around and say that having marquee players is bad for brady.
There has been so much attrition around brady that its hard to compare eras.He doesnt have the same coaches/players around him and he himself has gotten injured.
I dont rememeber anyone saying favre as "sliding out the league's elite quarterbacks" for all those yrs.

There is nothing ingenious about this offense. Heck, it might be the dumbest offense in the league. It's like a 12 year-old playing Madden. Anyone with basic football knowledge can predict what the offense is going to do on any given play, simply based on the formation they're in. That's pathetic.

Your promise seems to validates why I feel when watching pats offense... it is very predictable. But I also got the sense watching colts game. They are just much more in sync.

exactly. Anyone know what manning has beeing doing different all yr. ? It was always the same plays to harrison and wayne. Even BB said so that they dont run a very complicated offense like the rams used to.
anyone watch the colts and saints game can see which offense is far more varied scheme wise. Still the colts offense is effective .Its because they operate at such high level of execution. Even brady has marvelled at that in the past.
sure brady can spread around but manning is spread around the ball only this yr to collie etc .In the past it was just harrison and then later wayne with play action from the stretch play with james.

Re: Reiss:Has Brady lost the Mariano mystique?

sadly doesnt this say how manning played all those yrs without a defense ?iam sure that debate will start again

Actually Manning had some pretty highly ranked defenses over those years.

That's been a mis-conception because of their playoff record.

You forgot Dallas Clark. He's a playmaker.

The Colts rarely had a good defense until recently.

Indy league ranked defense:
1998: 29th (PPG), 29th (Y/G), 28th (TO)
1999: 17th (PPG), 15th (Y/G), 27th (TO)
2000: 15th (PPG), 21st (Y/G), 25th (TO)
2001: 31st (PPG), 29th (Y/G), 23rd (TO)
2002: 7th (PPG), 8th (Y/G), 18th (TO)
2003: 20th (PPG), 11th (Y/G), 12th (TO)
2004: 29th (PPG), 29th (Y/G), 3rd (TO)
2005: 2nd (PPG), 11th (Y/G), 7th (TO)
2006: 23rd (PPG), 21st (Y/G), 21st (TO)
2007: 1st (PPG), 3rd (Y/G), 2nd (TO)
2008: 7th (PPG), 11th (Y/G), 13th (TO)
2009: 2nd (PPG), 17th (Y/G), 6th (TO)

The Colts having a good defense is relatively new.
