My fear is he has too much Tebucky Jones in him. He is a hard hitter. He can make big plays. But he can also be way out of position and take horrible angles for the ball.

I don't think he is a Pro Bowler. He is overall having a good year. He is too inconsistent though.

I just get the feeling he is going to become a big time clutch player coming up with big picks and hits in big situations. I don't really have any proof to back this up, it's just something I sense when I watch the guy play. I feel like next season he is really going to breakthrough and be a monster for us, but I hope he emerges as an animal starting Sunday hahaha.

One thing about Meriweather is that when he makes a big play, it's at the perfect time. The strip sack last year was the perfect example, but take even the Titans blowout for instance. We were leading 10-0 and Tenn was driving in our territory and then he forced Lendale White to fumble which pretty much set the tone for the entire game.

I had thought he was having one prior to the Colts game. Since then he's been very quiet and was actually bombed on a few times in the Saints game (who wasn't though?). I won't vote yes, but I won't vote no either. There's still quite a bit of season to go so I took the third option. If he can come up big in these games that close out the season, he'll earn a nod from me.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

No way. He might have a pro bowl season once he focuses on making tackles instead of trying to hit people.

ahem even tho i agree the hit i saw him put on shockey was AWESOME

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

He's a starter but not a leader or the brains on defense.

thats funny because rodney harrison & BB both said hes the leader who makes the calls back there

Yeah but they don't know what they're talking about.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

Even if he might have been contending for a Pro Bowl slot prior to last weekend (he wasn't) his performance in the Saints game ought to be an automatic disqualifier. He was simply atrocious. A prime reason for one of the most incredible defensive failures in modern football history.

not even close. He looked lost on Monday, esp. on the blown coverage td and I saw him failing to provide downfield help on several big plays. Wilhite's bad. Meriweather made him worse. He's probably done the same in other games but Brees and the Saints really exposed him. Big hitter though. I like that about him.

In fairness there is not many better than Brandon right now that have been fit all season. However the best safety in the AFC right now imo is Yeremiah Bell who is having a great year.

Re: Is Brandon Merriweather having a Pro Bowl year?

Atheletic, effective, dilligent, agressive .................... but he's a Cementhead who gets burned by being 25 yards somewhere else.

Possibly, putting him at corner wasn't a bad idea, too late now. Still, he's a good safety when he's just a safety and not a playcaller. Maybe Chung or McGowan can adjust the coverages. Trade Sanders, draft Rolle (and his big brain). Keep looking for another Milloy/Harrison/Reed/Polamalu ......... keep Meriweather as well.

No offense, but this sounds like the worst collection of ideas ever.

That's what I was thinking. A smaller faster version of Tebucky.

Mayweather may have all the physical tools, but he doesn't seem to have the natural instincts Reed and Polamalu possess. Still though, he's one of our better defensive players.

When did 'pretty boy' take up football?

Nice catch, eagle eye, LOL. I was just reading an article about the Floyd/PacMan negotiations.

I wonder how Floyd would do as an NFL player. On another tangent, I was watching the Celtics play tonight and was thinking that Rondo, with his quickness, speed, and wingspan, would probably do well as a DB or WR.
