For some reason, they are just always the beloved underdogs of the NFL. I have absolutely no idea why. It's probably because they have weak divisional opponents who have really weak fanbases. You don't see a lot of Titans, Texans, or Jaguars fans in the media, or on the internet. What I hate most is the constant misconceptions that people have made about them since Peyton Manning arrived. They have no defense. Huh? Their defense is normally very good... in fact there are always 52 players that hardly get mentioned.
I hate Bill Polian. No writeup needed. Plain and simply, the NFL should not have members of the competition committee be active parties. They should be retired or have no interest in the league. Put in coaches that are inactive right now, like Shannahan, Holmgren, Cowher, or Gruden. Use Madden. If they return to the league just replace him. Nothing wrong with new eyes and ears every season.
Mike Vanderjagt. But then again, the Colts hated him too.
Adam Vinatieri will just never look right in a Colts uniform, agreed upon by everyone. It's like Wade Boggs playing for the Yankees.
I hated the crappy little RCA Dome and the fake crowd noise, the "holier-than-thou" Dungy and his "Barry Bonds" comment, which I'm sure he knew in his honest solitude was a cheap shot. In the wake of Spygate, not only were the Jets reported by Newsweek to have engaged in the same type of taping, but when teams were asked about which teams were the most notorious, the Colts came up more than a few times.
I really hated the way Dungy said after the Super Bowl that he is the first Christian coach to win it all. Please do not mix religion with sports. Do that in your own time. Could you see Robert Kraft boasting that he was the first Jewish owner to win a championship? Leave that stuff for your motivational speeches at churches or synagogues. I highly doubt he was the first Christian coach to win it all. 90% of the country is Christian. More like, he was the first coach to proclaim how religious and righteous he was.
Most of all, I hate Marvin Harrison. What a dirtbag gang banger who basically played for almost 15 years with a shining white line generated by every network. This guy is absolute human scum who tried to shoot someone, attacked some kids at the pro bowl, and attacked a security guard at a Jets game. Yet for some reason, because he plays on the quiet "little engine that could" called the Colts, he was always considered to be a great guy. There was no media fallout when the story broke last year about his "dark side," but Randy Moss is treated like a career criminal for incidents that were harmless in comparison.
I know the real story about Peyton Manning and Tennessee with the sports trainer and the lawsuit. My dad used to work with a lady that went to UT and was friends with this woman... and I heard about this WAY before Manning reached his superstardom, and WAY before I had any reason to care about Manning. Honestly, I don't even care. He was obviously young and immature and is a good guy now... but basically his powerful daddy settled with the trainer by paying her off, and unlike the hundreds of other pro athletes, and millions of non-elite men and women around the world, whose reputations are ruined by mistakes, Peyton got out of this one because of his family name. Please don't ask me anything else about this because I will not say anything else... except that, in case you are wondering, Peyton did NOT rape her or force her to do anything. I have heard much, much worse things, but what really happened was suppressed through a monetary settlement.
That said, I do respect the Colts. Overall they are a great organization with incredible talent and management. For my money, Bill Polian is the best talent evaluator in the league and Peyton Manning might be the second greatest quarterback of all-time. I just don't like the image of sainthood they garner from everyone.
