Comeback Player of the Year

Cedric Benson saved his career. Hard not to give him the award over anyone else not named Brady.
I can't imagine they'd give a comeback player award award to someone who has been pretty much a disappointment his entire career. In general CPOYs go to someone who was at one time recognized as a star. Benson was expected to be a star due to his high draft position, but the Bears were never particularly happy with what he actually did.

I'm not completely familiar with the criteria for NFL version of this award, but wasn't Brady EXPECTED to come back and play at his usual high performance level? Return from this injury is pretty common, no? To me, this type of award should go to the player no one really expected to come back. Who that player is, I guess I don't know yet.

I like Brett Favre but I just don't get how a player who played 16 regular season games last year and all the games for the Vikings this year could be in contention for comeback player of the year.

It just sounds so stupid.

Yes, but that's not what the reward is about. It's about an individual overcoming difficult circumstances. FYI, Garrison Hearst won the award twice.

Right, but Garrison hurst wasn't competing against a QB who blew his knee the previous year and is on pace to put up 4700 yds, 66% Comp, 32 TDs, and 10 Ints.

Those are MVP type numbers.

Chad Pennington will win it next year.

Anthony Hargrove of the Saints is a classic CPoY story.

You're probably right. Will likely be similar to year Marino won it coming off Achilles injury. Just think that if Caddy runs for 1,200 yards, after all he's been through, it's just a great comeback story.

Oh, its a great story, but there are plenty of backs in the NFL who will go for 1200.

If he puts up 1700 and close to 20 TDs, its a different story, because thats pretty much the equivalent of what Brady is on pace to do.

I actually don't think Brady should get CPOY even though he earns it according to the definition of the award. We all knew what Brady is capable of and most of us expected him to come back to form and are not surprised at his performance. Cedric Benson and C-Williams are more surprising.
I actually thought Benson was wack.

I don't think too many teams do anything BUt play pass defense against Tampa though.

That's not fair to Brady. Expecting him to be inhuman cheapens the amount of work he put in to get to where he is.

Probably should be for Benson or Brady. I'd give the nod to Brady considering his comeback was from injury. Was Benson hurt or did he just not live up (or put work in) to the hype?

Favre is a disgrace. To feed that ego with another award... it would kill me

Benson played well last year (though not as good as this year), if I'm not mistaken.

I'm not sure how Cadillac Williams doesn't win this award. He came back from multiple devastating knee injuries, has had his career written off several times, and yet stole the starting RB job out of the blue in Tampa and is having a very solid year.

Cadillac came in second just behind Tom in the voting.

Good insight.

Thanks. Just saw the results. Can't believe 7 people threw votes away on Vince Young. Otherwise, Caddy probably would have won.
