I think that the Colts will have to beat the Pats on the ground, which in all fairness is a good possibility.

Honestly though, what have they really shown?

14 points on Jacksonville. Really?
27 points on Miami.
31 points on Arizona. Nice.
34 points on Seattle. eh.
31 points on Tennessee. eh.
42 points on St. Louis. Nice.
18 points on San Fran. Oops.
20 points on Houston.

I mean, it's not like you guys are 8 - 0 in the same fashion the Saints are. They are tough Tough TOUGH.

I just don't get why you think the Colts are going to put up 31 points against a strong pass defense, when passing is your strong suit based on who you have played and the points you've scored?

Wasn't me but I am thinking you mean the collective you of the Colts fans.

I think this game is either going to

31-28

or

14-10

Notice I didn't say either way as I think it could go either way very easily. I just don't think it will be a blowout, this is going to be a very close game.

Points are also a very misleading stat. The colts have controlled a couple of long drives in the end of games where they were able to score but the point of the drive was to control clock. You knows those drives, the Pats have been having them for years

I like the Pats/Indy matchup.

Indy's 1st passing offense to Pats' 4th passing defense.

Indy's 29th running offense to the Pats' 20th rushing defense.

Pats' 2nd passing offense to Indy's 9th passing defense.

Pats' 16th running offense to Indy's 14th running defense.

Indy's D is 1st points allowed, Pats' D is 3rd.

Pats' O is 3rd in points scored, Indy's is 6th.

The Pats have shown a more balanced offense being 2nd in total yards, while Indy is 7th.

All in all, minus two tough losses by New England in games I think they should have won, these are two very evenly matched teams.

The Pats were only able to put 27 on the dolphins too. Although the Dolphins did dominate that game against the colts.

Very nice analysis. In contrast, the Pats have played:

Buffalo = 10th rated pass defense
NY Jets = 2nd
Atlanta = 27th
Baltimore = 19th
Denver = 6th
Tennesee = 32nd
TB = 15th
Miami = 28th

Some weak teams against the pass, but clearly some strong ones too. Average pass defense ranking of Indy's opponents is #24.5/32. Average ranking of NE's opponents is 17th. The best pass defense Manning has faced so far is currently ranked 17th (Seahawks).

Indy ranks #9 so far against the pass. So far against top 10 pass defenses TB has thrown for 378 yards and 2 TDs/1 INT against Buffalo (97.8 rating), 216 yards and 0 TD/1 INT against the Jets (53.1 rating), and 215 yards with 2 TDs/O INTs against the Broncos (96.7 rating). Overall he's averaging 270 YPG with 4 TDs and 2 INTs. Obviously not his best, but not horrible given very good pass defenses.

It will be a very interesting test of the Pats pass defense. The best QB's we've faced so far are Kyle Orton (95.5 QB rating), Joe Flacco (90.2) and Matt Ryan (82.2). We controlled Ryan (199 yards/0 TDs/0 INT, 82.3 rating), did decently against Flacco (264 yards/2 TDs/1 INT, 78.7 rating) but did a poor job against Orton (330 yards/3 TDs/1 INT, 96.7 rating). I don't expect us to shut down Manning by any means. But if we can get pressure on him the way SF did, then I could see our defense making some opportunistic plays the way we did against Flacco. We will have to be very physical and aggressive, the way we were against Baltimore.

The Jets and Broncos Beat you, The Bills, other tough team almost beat you.

Colts = 9th with 16 yard difference

The Colts pass offense = 1
The Pats pass offense = 2

20 yard difference so the matchup is excellent. The Colts have beat the teams they are supposed to. The Pats have beat the teams they are supposed to save for maybe the Jets.

The one complete team the Pats have faced (Denver) Beat them.

We can sit hear and put stats back and forth that make the pats look good and the colts look bad or the colts look good and the pats look bad but it all comes down to any given sunday.

This Sundays matchup is the premiere game of the regular season year in and year out and I don't expect anything less this Sunday.

Totally agree with everything you said. The Pats (and Brady in particular) have coughed up hairballs against a couple of tough pass defenses. These were growth experiences but there is no guarantee that they translate to this Sunday.

This is Manning's first look this year at a top pass defense so there is an unknown factor in this matchup. He is completely capable of handling it, but has struggled a bit with inferior teams at home, including this past week.

With the Colts at home (including the associated home-cooking with the officials), they should be favored. The Pats will have to play their sharpest game of the year to overcome that.

Do you think that the Pats defense will shut down or dominate the Colts Passing offense? Is that what this means? Only reason I ask because that is basically this is obviously the biggest strength of the Colts and I'd be surprised if this happened. I wouldn't be surprised if the Pats win, I would be surprised if they can shut them down passing the ball, completely.

I think they can slow it down. I've watched almost every Colts game this year and believe me when I say this: you guys have yet to see a secondary that is as physical as our's. Your receivers are going to get roughed up, and that is one of the best ways to slow the Colts' passing attack (other than generating pressure on Manning up the middle, which I don't think we're going to be able to do).

It will be interesting to see how Indy comes out on offense. Against the Texans this weekend they came out in a full blown hurry up. Not just the no huddle that they generally run, but in a two minute offense. If Brown is healthy this week, and I sure hope he is, he could be a real impact player. If the Patriots run a coverage style D, Brown could have a big day. The key is the young receivers hanging onto the ball Garcon was doing really well at the begining of the year but has dropped a couple easy catches the past two weeks.

I assume you mean the Texans, not the 49ers regarding the hurry up offense.

I agree Brown could be big for Indy - he's the kind of guy who gives NE fits. Nice player - RB wasn't a top need last draft, but I half hoped he would slip to the mid 2nd round for us. I knew when Indy got him he'd be trouble down the road - but hopefully not tomorrow.

I'm assuming the Pats will focus on limited the damage done by Wayne and Clark, so there will certainly be other opportunities if they give Manning time. Again, the key is to be physical, regardless of who gets the ball.

It will be an interesting chess match.

Ya, you're right the Texans, I'll fix it. I was distracted by some fool shouting about the Steelers here at work.

That's funny. Some guy shouts about the Steelers in Indy and gets mentioned on the Pats forum. Odd how some things happen.

Seems there is a bit of a poll going on over at indystar.com on who you'd want as you QB; Manning or Brady. Have a look and cast a vote! The page also has some good stats on the last few meetings between the two teams.

I'm actually in Cincinnati, so it's even weirder.

I'm a transplant, but still a season ticket holder.

Damn this game should be a classic. I think that the Colts are the best team in the league. To beat them on the road would be HUGE for the Pats. Can't wait for Sunday!

Manning is having an MVP year ... with new talent on his team no less. Well, I am biased but our young and eager secondary studs have to be super psyched up for this match. So ... let's see ... who will be the FS, the SS and the CB's. What I love about this game is we can spend the entire day in our dime defense and that means Butler and Chung are on the field ... NICE.

The Texans did a nice job with their dime ... our dime is better ... lightening fast.

wow, it's 57% to 43% in favor of manning now (I voted twice I confess).

this morning it was 80-20 in favor of peytoon.

1.) It's funny, but since james Sanders has been on the bench, fast running backs and wide receivers have been giving us less trouble. I'm not saying everything was his fault, but we have significantly improved since McGowan has been on the field more. If our safeties work on their tackling technique, we can reduce their opportunities for yards after the catch.

2.) One of the most interesting match ups this week is going to be whoever on our D lines up against Dallas Clark. He sometimes lines up out wide. Sometimes he's in the slot. Somtimes he lines up conventionally. How we handle him in those various situations will be improtant to our success.

3.) I think Bodden will most likely be lined up against Reggie Wayne. If we have Meriweather shade towards Wayne's side, he can be contained. When faced with violent aggression, Colts receivers have tendencies to drop balls. I know last year Wayne caught a touchdown pass in the end zone and Meriweather blasted him. I don't think he'll be to eager to pay that kind of price for a touchdown this time.

4.) We don't know if Koppen will be out. The good news is that he doesn't have to rush back. The Colts aren't a team that blitzes alot up the middle. Also, their DT's aren't that big. Connolly should be able to do ok. If he is a better run blocker than Koppen, all the better. We'll see. The big test on offense will be Volmer vs Freeney. This is it folks. If Volmer can use his size and speed to contain Freeney's effectiveness, we can have a very good night.

5.) This one is related to four. If Brady gets enough time, he can have a big day. The Colts secondary is decemated. Last year, the Colts had a rookie corner up against Moss. Cassel took almost no deep shots at Moss. This year, I don't think we repeat that mistake. Brady seem to be making serious strides towards becoming his old self. Bob Sanders is out and so is Marlin Jackson. On the linebacker level, Tyjuan Hagler is also out. We have some good matchups.

6.) If Ben Watson continues to step up, we can't let this guy go. He's made key catches this season. I think he still remembers his very, very, very very, poor performance against the Colts last year. His lack of aggressiveness cost us an interception. I don't think he lets something like that happen again. With weaknesses in the Colts secondary, Gary Brackett will be forced to stay at home in coverage. if we throw Baker and Watson at him, things can get very tricky for him.

7.) Who the hell are they going to put on Welker. If they put a linebacker on him for the jam, we win. If they put some young inexperienced corner on him, we win. If they put a safety on him, then either Moss, Aiken, Tate, or Watson wins.

8.) Maroney is putting it together. Teams have shown that they can run on the Colts. Most teams don't run the ball because they have fallen behind. If we can maintain ballance, we can wear them down with the run, and destroy them with the pass. I don't know about you guys, but I want blood. They have had some big wins against us in the past. I want a blow out. The Colts have had a soft schedule so far. The olnly good teams they faced were the Cards and the Fins. Guess what? We beat the Fins by 10! They beat them by less than a touchdown!

10.) McGowan, Guyton, Thomas, and Meriweather have the speed to handle Clark, Addai, and Brown in various situations. We have options. We can confuse them.

11.) The bad: We have one good pass rusher.

12.) The bad: Our best pass rusher has about 3 sacks.

13.) The bad: We're not that great against the run either.

14.) The bad: Mathis will be up against Kaczur.

Why is everyone already saying that we barely beat the Texans so you can beat us? We have some of our key defensive players out for the season.

I see some flaws in Brady this past season too and not the same. Im not picking anyone this game even if I'm a Colts fan. It will be a challenge for us just like every other week.
