The fallout of Spygate

Spygate will always be a blemish on the Patriots thanks to the media and the commish. .....

No thanks to Bill Belichick.

I love this team and love Bill as a coach. But it was a BIG mistake by
Bill to place a camera in plain sight and knowing he could be violating the rules.

What went though his mind when he made that decision. That is what
I'd like to know in a tell all book.

Here is some points to consider.
1 BB is very smart knew the rules.
2 BB knew he could be breaking the rules.
3 BB thought he had found a loop hole in the rule.
4 BB did not check with NFL about his loop hole.
5 BB made no attempt to deceive his rule breaking.

As smart as BB is, did he think for one moment of the consequence
of doing this? Maybe he thought only a slap on the wrist or something.
But he must have known people were gunning for him. He must have
known these antagonist would do anything to bring him down.
Was the information he got so worthwhile that he would risk this?

Anyway, no matter how you cut it for fans that are NOT PATs fans
there will always be a shadow of doubt when it comes to the teams
BB coached. IMO.

I live in enemy (Fish) territory, which also has a large contingent of Steeler fans, and then I'd say Green Bay fans, and with a smattering of various other teams. NE fans are definitely in the minority here, but nobody really says anything about ***gate anymore. Or maybe just not in front of me because they've long ago realized I'll win that "argument" every time. But really, there's not much love for the Pats around here, but there is respect, no matter how grudging. The internet, haven for the morons of the world that it is and always will be, is the only place I see ***gate still being brought up. [shrug]

I think the "skirt-wearing Brady" rule is currently the primary way to try and discredit the Pats, both on the internet and IRL. Although, anyone I know IRL has already learned not to try that in front of me, either, lest they get their ear drilled out with a speech about this season's RTP calls both against the Pats and for other QBs in general, and about the times TFB has been sacked or hit without a call.

after BB doesnt coach anymore? after most of the players from this decades team are retired, after Kraft maybe doesnt own the team anymore?

or do u think itll just be a footnote, sometimes mentioned in the future, but less and less as time goes by, w/o ever any greater depth to it?

or do u believe some of these guys, after they have to stakes anymore, will come out and reveal more things?

There have been many coaches players that have left the Pats with a bad taste in their mouth and could have made things up about the team or BB. .......They really haven't. Why?....... Because there was nothing to say. That is all you have to remind the "Cheater Patrol". Why is it the Jets can tape the Pats without repercussion and the Dolphins can tape play calls and that is different? Why can the Colts turn up the heat on the field and the volume of the house speakers and that is not cheating? How can a GM who is head of the NFL Competition Committee keep changing the NFL rules to fit his team so they can eventually win a Superbowl? Why is a coach who is on the same NFL Competition Committee wink and smile to his players when an key opposing player is taken out by a questionable block and........ his team has been voted dirtiest in the NFL? Why do the Steelers boast about all their rings back in the day, ..........when they were all juiced?
Why aren't the Raiders fans saying, "Ya know, The Ray Hamilton roughing the passer hit was B.S. and we should have lost that game, even though it turned the game around and we went on to win the Super Bowl". At least the Pats "break" was in the rule book that snowy night and not left up to one "blind" ref.

Why is it because some moron says he scouted the Rams practices before the Pats/Rams SB, we have a controversy about that even though unsubstantiated. He was proven out to be a liar and yet anti-Pats fans hang on his every scenario. First of all all their plays were scouted for 18 games or more even though Marshall says the Pats knew the Rams plays before they happened. Now there is a mystery. It's called preparation Marshall. Secondly, if they allowed a Patriots personnel member (with Pats gear on) to watch their SB practice and not remove him, he should have scouted them EVEN HARDER. How many believe that SB one...raise your hands?

We all hate the Yankees. If we have a case with A-Rod that we have a chance to discredit the Yankees, we do. Fact is the majority of the Red Sox fans would welcome him here with no reservations.

If the whole Pats team changed unis with the Redskins, coaches included, does a Redskin fan at a bar mention running up the score? Does the Jet fan if we dressed as the Jets, say Brady has a different set of rules?

It is all a perverse form of flattery Cousins. Other teams' fans hoping that they had reached these same achievements and failing that, downplaying those other players, coaches, owners etc. (including the Pats fans) from reaching an accomplishment and internal satisfaction of success as part of the New England Patriot story, fills their emptiness and bitterness....hence they are less of a failure for the team they support.

Going back to the Yankees, as example, how many of us would applaud a personal tragedy if it was found that A-Rod was juiced again during this last World Series, if it would reduce the euphoria of the Yankee fandom and we could call out....."asterisk!"?

Bill was doing business as business is done. Everyone pushes the envelope or gets left behind to wallow in mediocrity. Bruised egos and jealousy is all any of this was ever about as history, in persepective, will note.

It will just be a tiny event as time passes. The ridiculous-ness of the fine will be evident the more time passes, since everyone still videotapes even now, just not from the sidelines.

Paul Brown is a legendary coach, Belichick's hero, who was also heavily fined once, and for a similarly ridiculous incident that over time nobody cares about.

IMO if we win another Superbowl in the next 2-3 years, very few will remember spygate. If we don't win, then more than a few people will remember and will always bring it up that we couldn't win anything without cheating.

Seeing as the Chiefs are recognized as among the Godfathers of cheating in the NFL going back 50 years and the "cheater" in question has a Trophy named after him, I'd suspect there will be little who even remember this in 10 years.

i agree if the pats win another title or two then most of this crap that is left will go away, but there will always be a few who scream "tainted" no matter what else happens. some fans are still angry about the tuck rule and say the pats won it in 01 because of the 9-11 attacks. others say they cheated against indy when they were too physical with the WRs in the 03 AFCCG. Sore losers always have an excuse.

The only "fallout" from Spygate was that BB et al tightened things up a LOT. Emails that got ignored (we've all gotten corporate emails, we know what we do with them ) became priority; the Pats recognized the need to pay more attention to all that, in fact didn't they go so far as to put some new systems in place so that things like this wouldn't happen in the future?

The Pats did everything they had to to correct that part of the situation-BB being unaware of the rule change.

I think the entire organization went into defensive mode including the team. On the field BB made sure all their i's were dotted and their t's were crossed, I thought at the time it affected our defense but maybe time has altered my perception.

They've moved past all that imo and so has most of the league it seems. But one thing that will never change, at least for me, is my perception of the media. They fueled the opposing fans, they fueled opposing coaches and teams, they reported lies, they went after BB on a personal level, they attacked us fans... then they in turn fed it more, and the beat went on.

The media was out of control and in some cases probably downright despicable.

No matter, I think the Pats are better for it and anyone who thinks they've forgotten who their enemies were is crazy. I love the fact Reiss, Tedy and Rodney have penetrated their lines

Plus the Pats continue to be there every year despite it all and at this point even opposing teams as well as the media have come to respect that. generally I think Spyhate's been put behind, but I don't think any of us will ever forget the media's handling of it all. Neither will Bob Kraft.

As far as this issue goes, I have no inclination to let go of "it", just as I have and had no inclination to let go of the Ben Dreith issue years ago which EVENTUALLY proved out to be true, by way of Dreith's admission in an interview up in Montana in the 90's. Goodell NEVER should have sat in judgement of the NE Patriots given his work history background with the Jets and his start in the league offices per the recommendation of the Jet principal owner at the time. He REEKS of corruption, his actions against our franchise fairly SCREAM bias and his continued inaction to put this sham story to rest PROVES his collusion.
