I think it's better to play as hard as we can in the remaining 18 games and be happy with the WC. If we win the division and catch the Yanks somehow, it will be in the divisional round:

Sox vs. Detroit

Yanks vs Angels

Detroit won't be easy in a best of 5 series especially with verlander pitching in two games. Let the yanksleeze play them.

If we win the WC, it will be:

Sox vs. Anaheim

Yanks vs. Detroit.

We match up much better against Anaheim since their pitching is not that great. We can take Lackey and Saunders.

I'd much rather see the Sox win the division so they can have home field but that's not happening.

Their record on the road compared to at Fenway is horrible.

so it's a catch 22. you win the division, you play verlander. you win the wc, you play on the road.

IRRC, Verlander has had nowhere near the success on the road as he has at home.

Facing him twice is tough but after him I don't like any of their starters in the playoffs at all.

i don't think home field advantage in the playoffs matters at all. once the playoffs start the only thing that matters is who is on the bump and how they perform.

Home field matters, just not a whole lot like football.

True, Cap. We will be playing the Angels, so this debate is moot. I think it all comes down to Beckett, Lester & Bucholz. If they're on, I like our chances. If they're not, we hope the Yanks tank, and wait for next Spring.

And Dice K.

You're right, Disco. Dice-K would be a huge plus if he throws like his last start.

Don't want to start a new thread, but is Tek toast? His hitting is awful, & he can't throw anyone out. He's had a great career with the Sox, but I hope the Sox don't pick up his 2010 option.

Tek has a player option.
