Patriots trading Richard Seymour to the Raiders!!!

Raiders have no chance to win this season but they're renting a great player for one year.

Pats have a great chance to win but they've traded away their best player on their weakest unit.

This trade makes no sense for either side to me.

I think the raiders will sign him, unless he stinks it up bad in Oakland. I even suspect the raiders will sign him to an extension before this season is over.

Maybe he likes AD and mayo to help stop the run when seymour is gone. Seymour was no sack monster, run stoping DE yes, but no sack monster.

Although he led the team in sacks last year.

if they dont have a contract in place in 4 weeks id be stunned. you have to sign the player to a long term deal after giving up a first round pick.

How many sacks did he have? 8.5?

Yes. To put it simply. You are trashing the guy by saying he didn't live up to expectations and refusing to say what those expectations were.

Then, you proceeded to show that you don't know the difference between a 3-4 DE and a 4-3 DE because you clearly think that they have the same job when they don't. I won't even ask if you understand the difference between a single gap and a two gap system since you don't understnad the differences in positions.

I wasn't going to justify your arrogant comments with a reply, but I think I realized where I remembered your name from. You were the incredibly annoying, know-it-all poster on the ESPN forums a while ago.

Not only are you completely wrong about my football knowledge, but you're twisting my words, and playing them up for drama, something a 14 year old girl would do.

Are you a 14 year old girl? I'll be absolutely surprised if you answer no to that... really.

This board has noted that we didn't get the pressure we wanted so maybe that's not the right question.

Maybe BB has something different in mind and Sey wasn't part of that equation.

Maybe in effort to sign him next year, BB wants him on a one year sabbatical to see "how the other half lives".

Maybe BB wants to take the heat off Josh McDaniels.

And if they do you will know what matters to Richard Seymour, and it won't be winning more championships...

The Raiders HAVE TO sign him. They can't trade a #1 for one year of Seymour, it would be a crazy bad value trade. Seymour can write his own check.

I think the raiders are looking for a guy who can stop the run well, not a sack monster, so they will most likely sign him to a big contract, and seymour will just be a good run stopping DE for the rest of his NFL career.

Seymour will probably be a DT in their 43, and playing one gap technique will probably put up nice sack numbers.

I expect that we will franchise Wilfork or Gostkowki (whichever can't be signed).

Why franchise Gostkowski?? He's in the same boat as Mankins.. He's an RFA..

If there's one aspect of football Bill Belichick knows better than anyone else, it's the defensive line. Why anyone thinks BB, a guy who takes DL in the draft like it's goin out of style, would dump Seymour if he thought it would seriously impact the team's defense is beyond me.

I'm not usually the type to spout the "In BB we trust" mantra, but when it comes to the d-line, there isn't anyone currently in the game who I'd trust over BB.

If BB is trading a Pro-Bowl, freakish size/athleticism combo like Seymour, he has a damn good reason.

This is true, the thing I don't get is what if Seymour doesn't want to sign(he did hold out here once)?

Unless he approved of the trade? That's the only thing I can think of that would assure Oakland they can get something done long-term. Otherwise this deal makes zero sense on their end IMO.

I just don't see Seymour resigning with Oakland. They're not called the hotel for nothing.

He'll want to go to a contender or a marquee team.

Dallas, anyone?

Yeah. It's about the benjamins.
It's about getting one year out of Seymour vs. 5-6 years out of the draft pick. Or it we trade the pick down 8-10 years (combined) out of the draft pick.

Which means it's about the benjamins. Do you think this trade ever happens if BB thought he could resign RS to a cap friendly deal after his contract expires?

Or put it this way. Do you think BB takes a flyer (even a high one) over a proven impact player like Sey if he could make the money fit. I say no way. It's ALWAYS about the benjamins.
