Don't tell our resident rewriters of history, or bother to note for them that NE still scored a TD on that drive.
If you mean Gaffney's 3rd Quarter TD catch in the back of the EZ, then you are correct, sir.
If you mean the drop on 1st/15 from the Dolts 18 in the 4th Quarter, then that drive resulted in a FG to make the score 31-28.
As long as we're opening old wounds, let me defend Bug Eyes for a bit:
First, if Gaffney had not been penalized for Illegal Shift during the previous play, the Pats would've been looking at 2nd/3 from the 6.
Second, if Brady had been in the shotgun on 1st/15 - which he should've been - instead of under Center, he would've seen Caldwell open much sooner, and who knows, maybe Reche catches that pass because he would've been under less immediate duress. As it was, his extra wide peripheral vision must've seen the DB coming at him like a freight train; so by the time the ball finally arrived, he prob. was thinking about catching it, avoiding getting killed, running for daylight, maybe even his drop in the 3rd Quarter.
Third, Caldwell would not have scored a TD even if he had made the catch. The DB was too close to him by the time Brady finally saw him & threw him the ball. He prob. reaches the 7/8-yard-line.
Fourth, if the Zebra responsible for that corner of the EZ had the guts of a real man, he would've called PI on Kevlin Hayden on 3rd down, as was his duty. Just another disgraceful job by the cowardly jellyfish in stripes at the Artificial Noise Dome, under the all-seeing eye of Competition Committee member-for-life NaPolian.
As for Greg Lewis, he may have better hands than Bug Eyes, but he will have trouble getting separation, and he possesses almost no YAC ability whatsoever - think the anti-Meion Branch. But if Moss, Welker & Galloway can clear the field for him, Lewis could be a useful 3rd-down possession WR. I still wouldn't have traded a 5th-rounder for him, esp. since Philly prob. would've released him after their draft picks started signing.
