Not sure if this is good or bad, but Peter King lists us as #1 in his current rankings.. Mangini's team is #32..

Pittsburgh Steelers, N.Y. Giants atop early NFL power rankings - Peter King - SI.com

New England was seventh in the league in scoring with Brady playing one quarter in 2008; it'll be in the top three, easily, with him back. With new young talent in the defensive backfield -- Belichick can mix and match all the toys he's gathered over the past two offseasons, maybe playing Shawn Springs sparingly some weeks to keep him healthy for January -- New England should have enough ammo to be competitive with the best quarterbacks on the schedule. It was 5-1 down the stretch, including 4-0 on the road, as many of its young defenders grew up. I don't see much downside.

Re: Peter King Ranks the NFL Teams.. Pats #1

My prediction is that many if not most preseason pubs will have the Pats #1. With Brady returning and the additions the Pats made during the offseason, people will expect this team to be closer to the 2007 team than the 2008 team.

Re: Peter King Ranks the NFL Teams.. Pats #1

Completely irrelevant. Opinions are like Arsholes... everybody's got one.

happy to see so many people have high hopes for the pats this season... but really. off-season rankings are worthless.

Along with every other "writer" :D

And all of a sudden we care what Peter King thinks.

Only until the next time his column isn't stroking the Patriots.

Not really relevant to the thread but this was at the end of the article and i was wondering if anybody had any idea what he was going on about:

j. Every time I read a British sports section, I feel like there's an inside joke and I'm not in on it.

Now, now, no fair lashing out at the other kids just because you never got the point last week.

I don't care what he thinks, but I agree with this assessment. Sometimes people need to remember that the two things can be separated.

i think king is ******ed putting the bears that high, but i love this little write-up on sd -

Philip Rivers' great 2008 season was lost in the fog of a weird, controversial 8-8 year. I bet there haven't been 20 seasons -- ever -- as statistically impressive as the one Rivers had last year: 65 percent passing, 4,009 yards, plus-23 touchdown-to-interception differential.

Yea, I liked that one too - Anyone remember what Tom did in 2007? I forgot.

Really, can anyone speak to this out of experience?

Are you just talking out of your arse?

Brady's '07 and Manning's '04 stats were better. More passing yards, better completion percentages, better TD/INT ratios- two examples in five years he should have known about.

Chicago number 4 please....... Jay Cutler is 17-20 as an NFL starter. They'll be lucky to beat out Detroit for the basement of that div.

Man, those were some bad power rankings.

I wasn't sure about that myself...probably just cultural references and sporting knowledge. Unless he just thinks we're elitist :)

The only way the Bears will even win their division is if Favre signs with Minnesota. Favre is the only man who can keep the Vikings out of the playoffs.
