I'd jump all over Andre smith, if BB TB Randy so on and so on can't get Smith's head into daylight than who the hell can. We need a dominate LT, Light is a B/B- at best and constantly looks awful against a speed rush. He also has a tendancy to forget how to count at big moments which to me is unexcusable. I am all for some o-line upgrades.

umm, i must say....i disagree, Light has been superb the last 2 yrs, before that he had problem w/ speed rushers, but the last couple of years that has been a non issue....i dont kjnow if its b/c we have much better recievers, but the last two years he has been a very dominant LT (and btw, its not light who gets the false starts, its more the right side of the line along w/ koppen)

Did you watch the Pitt game this year?! What was it, 2, or 3 strip sacks he was responcible for. Given Harrison is considered the best defender in the game, but it is one case of many. I would call him anything but dominant. Maybe the right side jumps more often, but it seems to me Light jumps the most on a 3rd down play (for the line as a whole, and when he does jump). Maybe the other thing is that it seems he jumps once or twice each game I get the chance to see in person. I am not a fan of 72.

Light is between the extremes you two just described. He's a marginally above-average LT; I'm very much in favor of drafting an OT who could eventually take over his spot at LT, thereby moving Light to RT where I think he could be more effective.

I think the days of the thumping, Ted Johnson-esque run stuffing ILB are over. Guyton could probably start, but I think we'll probably draft a couple LBs (or maybe just one, depending on Woods/Crable/TBC evaluation) for the rotation. I don't have much faith in Bruschi's abilities at this point.

What does anyone think about trading up in the draft?

Maybe the 23, and 58 for the 12 from Denver and a third round next year?

We could go after Rey Maualuga? He could be a long term answer at ILB.

I really would like to draft Connor Barwin to play outside though, and he might have to be taken at the 23 now with his pro-day.

Any thoughts? :disagreement:

I'm just getting around to really looking at draft info, but Barwin at #23 seems to early. In your scenario we could probably still get him at #34.

Still, we need a safety. I'd say we make sure we get three guys we REALLY want on day one, whatever the pick cost. Priority, by my count is OLB, Safety, ILB.

We need OL and DL, but those three picks seem pretty important on day one.

What is a dorminant LT ,more importantly how the hell did brady have all those awesome game winning drives with out a dorminant LT.see the thread where someone posted the baltimore last drive.LT is matched up 1 on 1 with suggs. or the 2006 Divisional playoff where 1 on 1 with merriman. go back watch all the great drives against the best pass rushers and light .

so i am curious as if he such just a serviceable guy how come he has protected the blind side of the one of the most successfull QB to ever play the game.

Ok so we make the trade, get Maualuga at 12, Barwin at 34, would you think that Louis Delmas is available at 47?

Look in to Kraig Urbick in the 3rd round to play RT? Sen'Derrick Marks is another interesting prospect I've considered for DL. Question is who and when.

That's the question of the month. Somehow I doubt it.

I suppose the important thing is that as we pick through draft ratings, there will be players hitting the radar that so far have not. This will probably be highlighted as we learn who is coming in for workouts.

Didn't they workout Barwin? How do you feel about getting him if they do?

the guy had one bad game....thats it....and if lets compare him when hes gaurding for a QB with more than one season under his belt...

Michael Oher is the tackle I want, although his good showing at his pro day may have made that a more expensive trade up scenario. Draft him and let him develop his game, because he wouldn't have to start right away.

Hmmm.... maybe I should just make this post a macro until the draft gets here.

Certainly wasn't good, but it was about what I'd expect from a rookie playing out of position.

He was an OLB in college. The fact he played inside last year is even more remarkable. Testament to BB knowing how a player can fit into his scheme.

He is good as long as you have an active tight end that can help him occassionally. Graham was great in the sense that he could chip and then get into space, where as a guy like K.Brady was either blocking or not. Watson is getting better at that role. All the weaponry in 07 gave him opportunites to help in pass protection more often

If he is the right guy Barwin at 23 is fine, I agree that the first 2 should be safety and OLB. Sean Smith 6'3" 215 U og UT, CB use as safety. ILB and OT with the other 2nd rd picks.

Not quite correct. He played MLB behind a college star, Philip Wheeler, who was drafted in the third round by the Colts. The college coaches tried to use him at times as an OLB, and he was terrible in that position.

So he was a college MLB who didn't start at MLB, and was a failure at OLB. That lead to an UDFA status. After all, if you can't even start in college, how can you play in the NFL?

Sort of like Matt Cassel who couldn't beat out Carson Palmer or Matt Lienert, so he sat. He might have been the second best QB in the country since the guys he couldn't beat out were Heisman Trophy winners.

Only Beoli could see beyond the tips of their noses, or more likely bothered to look.

There is pattern about all the UDFAs who became keepers with the Pats. They all have some story, that illuminates and explains them. Like Pierre Woods dog house episode with the Michigan coaches.

So the plan is to use our three picks in the top 60 to try to get a middle linebacker and a safety whose combined Wonderlic is about 27? Yes, Belichick will draft someone with low Wonderlic's at certain positions. And, no, Wonderlic's cannot be looked at in isolation. But why take the chance when we don't have to. If we want to trade up, trade up for Orapko or Jackson or Brown. And then draft Chung or Moore or Rashad Johnson. I don't understand drafting dumber than dirt middle linebackers and safeties. I'd like them to call the defenses or at least the adjustments.

That's the question of the month. Somehow I doubt it.

According to Reiss' latest blog entry, Guyton was right behind Cassel in incentive based earnings. Nice little bonus for an UDFA

1) Matt Cassel -- $238,160
2) Gary Guyton -- $213,128

No upside for Denver to make that deal. Even if BJ Raji and Orakpo are somehow off the board, they need to upgrade their defense. I think if we trade up, it will be with New Orleans or San Diego, both of whom don't have 2nd round picks and would probably take 47 and 23 for their spot. But I feel like that would be a waste, Maualuga is good and would be a great addition but I'm not sure he's worth trashing a pick that could turn into a standout player. Besides, I doubt he falls past Denver anyway. There are basically, as I see it, five "can't miss" defensive players in the draft:

Curry
Orakpo
Jenkins
Raji
Maualuga

They'll all be gone by 15, at the latest. So I guess the question is moot anyway; and I bet Guyton is a starter (the weak link?) this year.

Only Beoli could see beyond the tips of their noses, or more likely bothered to look.

Devil's advocate for a moment—why not draft, say, Guyton (or Green-Ellis) instead of Bo Ruud, or Ventrone instead of Andy Stokes, etc.?

Belichick has said that it was a mistake not to take Guyton over Rudd.
