Fun first week of FA ... Take a breath.

Well... that's what we have been doing for the last several years.

It seems like we keep bringing losers and crappy junk players into secondary year after year but keep losing losing even decent players. On top of it, our draft picks are also becoming busts. We never seem to package picks and get quality players. The only thing we keep doing is trade down and pick garbage and end up with busts. Our late first rounders and second rounders have been busts. The only silver lining is Mayo. As good coach as BB is, I hope he stops this infatuation with trading down and pick some quality draft players because we are so cheap that we can never hope that this franchise will pick any decent FA.

Welcome to another year of crappy secondary....

Just Curious what your definition of crappy is and what a bust is because while we have not found Ty Law or the Next Asante we have a couple of guys back there that have been drafted that have combined for like 50 starts and been a key part of a SB run.

And to criticize him just for moving down is stupid because you don't know how many times he moved down and still got the same player he would have got anyway. Supposedly he got Crable later in the draft after trading a pick where he may have drafted him. Not to mention the one guy you give credit for drafting was aquired after trading down (Mayo).

I think you are off base.

The Patriots made a mistake in not holding on to Asante Samuel.
They did not realize what was going to happen in the free agent
market. Now, even average cornerbacks demand 7 million dollar
annual salaries.

I agree with you that the cornerbacks signed the past couple of
years have been pretty bad. They were all castoffs and were
paid the veteran minimum in most cases. This year, the Pats
have come to an agreement with Shawn Springs. He is a fairly
highly rated cornerback. He should buy some time for the Pats
to develop some young talent. I think the best way to address
the cornerback situation is thru the draft.

With regard to the draft, the Patriots are probably in the middle
of the pack. They have had reasonably good success in the first
round but have had some noteable failures like Bethel Johnson and
Chad Jackson. I also wish they had packaged some picks in the
2007 draft to have obtained another good player or two.

This year, you will see how good the Patriots are at drafting. They
will have six picks in the first three round of a very deep draft. They
should cover most of their needs.

I hope that they will make a killing in this draft. Or defense was one of the best when we won superbowls. It slipped so bad that we lost most of the playoff games to historic comebacks by Colts and Giants. It pains to watch games where even below average QB kills us by making ocmpletion after completion. You watched games where 3rd and 16 or 3rd and 20 is not a problem for other teams.

Yeah, some things just make you want to cry.

not sure what picks they should have used to package (the ones that went to Moss and Welker)? Do you like Merriweather? because I think we did a lot of good for this team with the moves we made with our 07 picks.
