Season is over, who is the MVP of the NFL?

I really wish the Manning adulation factor would dissipate....yes he had a decent year, but it would be his third MVP for goodness sake. Not even Montana got three, while holding four rings! Only Lord Favrequad has that many and he only has one ring. 3 time MVPs should have at least 3 or more rings!!

For a third MVP I would want that player to really shine and Peyton hasn't really done enough to claim the honor; unfortunately the only players to really shine this year are defensive players (Polumalu, Harrison and yes even Lewis) but for some reason their bulbs are always 40 watts lower than offensive players.

Please make it a defensive player this year.....don't give it to Manning just because he's a Manning (like his brother getting SB MVP). Manning love is beginning to annoy me.

Chad Pennington or Adrian Peterson.

Peyton Manning does not deserve any regular season awards.

hate to say it but...

Peyton Manning

Re: Seasons over, Who is the MVP of the NFL?

Oh jesus... I don't know what is worse that joke or the fact that I am ashamed of myself for getting it.

Can someone help me out on this one?

Re: Seasons over, Who is the MVP of the NFL?

Tom Brady.......show me another player in the NFL who would = 5 more losses if not on the team.

Umm, I can think of quite a few. One would have to think the dropoff from Peyton Manning to Jim Sorgi would be worth a few losses, or how about from Eli to David Carr?

Or were you being sarcastic?

Philip Rivers, lead his team from a 4-8 start to a playoff birth, has 34 TDs to 11 INTs and the only QB with a 100+ qb rating.

While I don't necessarily disagree with your point, I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that he was also the one who led them to that 4-8 start.

As much as I can't stand him, that start wasn't really his fault. That defense couldn't stop me the first half of the season. Then again, Rivers got jobbed out of the Pro Bowl, so how could he be MVP? Regardless, I'd be...okay...with it if Rivers won it. He's a better choice than Manning this year.

No, it wasn't really his fault. He'd be a fine choice, but I doubt he'll win. My feeling is that if the voters have the option of giving it to Manning, they will - and he's not an indefensible choice.

If you're taking the term "value" by its true definition (which is never the case), then my choice would be Pennington. I don't see him winning it though.

Manning winning the MVP is a travesty and an example of how the mediot pundit class distort reality.

His defense won him the Jax/Pittsburgh/Cleveland/ Houston games.

He was outplayed in our loss and basically given the game.

I will give him a kudos for 4th quarter herioics against Detriot.

Pennington and Turner are the two worthy candidates. Personaaly, I would make them co-MVP's like in 2003.

And Manning led his team to a 3-4 start.

And a 9-0 finish. I think we can agree that's a bit more impressive than rallying your team to .500.

That said, I'm not saying I would pick Manning, just that I expect him to be the pick.

Michael Turner, imo.

it's going to be peyton peterson or pennington

i can't really argue a case against any of those guys, turner's got a case too but i suppose matt ryan steals some votes from him

so probably pennington/peyton/petereson

everyone loves peyton so i'd bet he's the favorite

but what chad did was amazing, 2nd in qb rating, 1st year on a new team, being a consistent leader in turning a 1-15 team into a 11-5 team, that's pretty damn good

oh and as much as i'd like to say rivers, people still see him as an ******* because of christmas eve 2007 , and he's 8-8, mvp is often about the w/l record

It pisses me off to no end that people keep shifting the criteria for MVP to fit Manning's season. When Manning was putting up crazy numbers and winning MVPs, Brady was chugging along with 14-2 records and winning Superbowls with guys most people never heard of before or since. Now, there's a sentiment that Manning brought an injury-depleted Colts team to the playoffs by sheer force of will, and his numbers are the same as Brady's were then: merely very good. It's annoying.

Anyway, I think The Chad is as good a candidate as anyone. He's been awesome this year, and I'm sure it's no coincidence that the Dolphins set the record for fewest turnovers in a season.
'caugh, caugh What? Removing TB's numbers for last season, as he was the MVP, let's take a look.

Only 1 time did TB even approach 371 completions, that was in '02, when he completed 373. Never has he come close to a 66.8 completion percentage. Only once did he surpass 4000 yards ('05). 28 TD's were a career high, Manning has never thrown fewer than 26. He threw 27 this season, while the team averaged about 5 points less than they are used to. 12 picks are remarkably low, considering he had 9 in he first 7 weeks. TB's career high passer rating was 93. Peyton hit it for a 95 clip. Sure, it was his lowest since 2002, but Brady, IN ALL THOSE OTHER YEARS, never hit a 95.

No way has this "down year" equaled the numbers that Brady was used to turning in. PM's 2008 stat line looks pedestrian compared to only Peyton Manning. This would be a career year for many qb's. And I think someone mentioned the 12 wins were "expected" Ha, I didn't see too many here lining up to place that bet. Every year is the year the Colts window closes, and every year they prove otherwise. 6 straight 12 win seasons. Unprecedented. Now, everyone is entitled to an opinion, and cases can be made for several players, but there is one clear cut favorite. In the end, I would trade it for a win in Tampa in a few short weeks.

There is no way in the world Manning deserves the MVP.
His team has been winning closer to inspite of their offense than because of it.
Good one. Six fourth quarter victories. Ungodly stats for PM in the 3rd and 4th quarters. 3 Comebacks from down 14, plus another from down 10. 4000 yards, 66.8 Completion %, 95 passer rating. Yeah, no way he deserves it. This Colts team would win 11 games easy without PM

Ed Reed?
9 interceptions with 2 Tds. Really stepped up down the stretch with 8 coming in week 12 or later and 4 in the final two games as the Ravens clinched the final wildcard spot.

Troy Polamalu was also huge with 7 picks although the steelers have a great pass rush while Ware's 20 sacks did not prevent a stacked Cowboys team choke away a play-off spot.

Sadly I still expect Peyton to pick up the award as arguably the best QB on a playoff side
