ProFootballTalk.com - WILFORK MEETING WITH THE COMMISH

It looks like he is either appealing a suspension/fine or stating his case why not to be suspended/fined for his actions during the Broncos game. I hope he at least gets a stay of execution for the next two weeks, but I fear he will be missing the Colts game, maybe longer.

Hmm, really if he's going to miss any game, the Colts wouldn't be too bad. Running game a little depleted, a pass heavy team as it is. While the team has used Wilfork in pass rushing situations over the course of the season, it doesn't have to. If he misses a game against a team with a better running game, ie, the Bills, then his loss is more problematic.

Wilfork comes off the field in a lot of nickel and dime packages anyway. So I do agree with you.

If he gets suspended for what he did, and I don't think anyone is really sure of what he did, including Bill (Based on his interview on WEEI yesterday) - Goodell is opening up Pandora's Box.

Goodell did that a long time ago. As I noted in a thread yesterday, the NFLPA is not happy with the harshness of the penalties and is looking to get an impartial appeals process set up rather than allowing the Commissioner to be judge, jury, executioner and appellate court.

Unfortunately, I didn't see Schefter's report on Sunday, but supposably he showed Wilfork elbowing Cutler in the back of the head on the coach's film.

Hopefully the NFLPA does something. It is way out of control. And I felt this strongly well before this issue with Wilfork. Meanwhile, all these fines and suspensions aren't working; just look at all the injuries this year.

I saw a quick shot of the incident and you can clearly see Wilfork throw a punch. If he gets suspended its his fault. I heard the other guy threw the punch first but I did not see it. Also he was pointing his fingers like a mad man again (see: eye poking incident last year...this incident makes you think that one may have been an acident as he is doing the same thing this time but not to the eye).

I ma not sure this is worthy of a suspension but if you throw a punch your asking for it especially with Comishoner cleusuau

Bill said that he could see no contact on his copy of the film. I'm not exactly sure how that works, I know there are Overhead Camera's, End Zone Camera's, and some other stationary camera - But I thought the teams SHARED the copy and each team did not do their own filming or do they do their OWN filming from the predetermined locations.

Someone want to enlighten me - and please spare me the Spygate hyperbole.

I feel like I see a lot of hits that don't need to be as violent as they are.

I mean, during the Colts game, I saw a Colt WR catch a ball, fall on the ground, and stay down.

A Titan DB then ran and basically did a slip and slide on him when simply touching the guy would have done just fine.

Also, on breakaways, I see a lot of "catch up to the running and do a missile dive at his ankles" where a normal tackle would do.

I don't know, it just seems like theres a lot of "intent to injure" type tackles out there.

What we really need is seventeen Wilfork threads. I almost missed the first eleven...

yup ...i saw it too..it was a clear punch. i dont care how goodell is...he needs to show more common sense. if this was done to matt cassel we would be all over it.

The punch he threw at the OL or are you sure he swung at Cutler?

What I saw was a punch at the O-linemen....I did not realize he allegedly elbowed Cutler until this thread.

Either I am reading what you are saying wrong or you misread what I said.

I am not saying Vince should be suspended as the incident I am referring too which was a little quibble with a o-linemen was not the worst I have seen but Vince did throw a punch so if he does get suspended he can only blame himself.

Could you tell me what exactly you saw?

Already opened up...so there are TWO incidents?? An elbow at Cutler and a punch at a lineman?? Hmmmmm....Not sure which brought a penalty...NOT good... BUT if it was for a punch..then Goodell has to be fair...Where was the suspension of SD's lineman Clary who threw a punch at Warren?? That was seen on TV..quite easily..nothing. And I don't think CoachB is whiny as many coaches are..but more suspensions..and nothing done in other instances?? UNFAIR!!

then Goodell has to be fair

that's a classic oxymoron
