Someone did a similar thread during preseason, thought it was time for an update...

I haven't paid too much attention to how the guys who were on my Pats radar are doing...my list of binkies was largely informed by some of the opinions of the members here, so it'll look quite familiar:

ANTOINE CASON:
15 tackles, 1 FF, 1 INT, 4PD.
Numbers look good, but they might also indicate teams are throwing his way a lot. Perhaps one of our SD fans on the board could share their thoughts on how Cason is playing.

QUENTIN GROVES:
5 tackles, 1 FF, 1 sack
Not too shabby either. I was always a Groves >>> Gholston guy.

Some others...Brandon Flowers, 12 tackles no picks for Chiefs....folks on here say Clady is faring well thus far.

Later round guys...Chevis Jackson has 5 tackles, so has gotten some PT, obviously, but no idea how he has fared. Cliff Avril has not made the box score yet for the Lions. Another OL guy, a mid rounder from Connecticut was Donald Thomas, he is out for the year.

I wasn't a big fan, but was interested to see how DRC would do. So far he has 4 tackles and 2 PDs, no picks, but stats can be deceiving for corners. Anyone had a chance to see how he's done visually?

Before Thomas got hurt, he beat out a free agent vet who had just signed a decent contract and rookies drafted higher. Miami defenders said he packed a strong punch, was very nimble, and in general, the 6th rounder was an asset, not just holding his own.

Thomas did not play football in high school, and walked-on during his soph. year of college after players noticed he was a monster in the weight room.

I can gladly fill you in on DRC:

They are easing him in as we speak, he's playing solely nickel and is getting in some sprinkled times on the outside islands. He has defended every pass thrown in his area code. People on the Cardinal board are already clammering for him to start over Hood or Green and it's just a matter of time before he displaces one of them.

What they are saying, which alot of people were knocking DRC on was his physicalness. So far, the Cardinal fans are describing him as having Deion Sanders coverage skills WITHOUT Deion's tackling accumen or lack thereof. In other words, he's been Really physical in run support, he's laying the wood.

For all who want to see DRC, great time is during the bye-week, this Sunday on FOX at 1 against the Rats. Keep an eye on #29........

Figured I'd be hearing from you

Good info, thanks!

I thought the Pats could draft Leodis McKelvin, and thankfully they didn't because he hasn't even recorded a tackle.

I also like Martellus Bennett as a blocking TE, with potential in the passing game, and he has done well there. Haven't seen his blocking skills yet.

Also, Curtis Lofton was another binkie if we had decided on McKelvin or Cromartie with pick 1, I knew Lofton was projected to be an upper 2, my hope was a trade up with one of the 3's to land him had we gone CB first.

Lofton has moved into the starting lineup and has real comparable numbers to Mayo in that he has been on the field for less snaps than Jerod:

11 solo 7 assisted - 18 total (Lofton)
21 solo 4 assisted - 25 total (Mayo)

Eh, tough to compare linebackers in different systems on tackles alone. Lofton may be asked to do different things than Mayo, who has to consistently engage guards and fullbacks. I think when all is said and done we're going to be very happy we picked Mayo.

I wanted a LT and my preference was Clady, although I deferred to BB's preference there. My thought was that the draft pick would play RT while learning, and while Light was still plugged in on the left, and then switch over. Clady is helping the Broncos offense light up the scoreboard, while Kaczur is helping the Patriots offensive line become an advertisement for pylons.

Not to worry, Deus. Plenty of draft picks will be thrown the OL's way this offseason. I'm sure of it.
