When I have a bad day at work, it's no big deal. The only person I hear from is my boss. When I put out a bad product though, I hear from my customers. It doesn't matter what I did in the past.

Having a bad day in football is practice. Putting a bad product out there is the game.

I don't know if it's right to boo or not but those comments about a bad day at work and not getting booed are completely offbase. I *DO* hear about it when I put a bad product out there. I've lost Millions of dollars in sales when the customer is not satisfied with the product. If they want to have a "bad day" keep it at practice like I keep mine for my work day but when it's time to produce for my customers, I answer directly to them.

You bring up a point that needs to be addressed. The Patriots are not an 18-1 team this year and the Dolphins are not a 1-15 team this year.

Last year is done, this year is completely different, who cares what the Patriots were last year, who cares what the Dolphins were last year, it is THIS YEAR.

Patsfans need to realize that this year will be nothing like last year. Patsfans should have diminished expectations this year due to the fact that the best player in the NFL is out for the year.

Well their record back to last year is the point that the Boo Police base their argument on, so don't tell them its irrelevant - that if a team is on a long winning streak they're protected from being booed in their worst loss ever at Gillette

They can't seem to tell me how many games one would need to wait before one could boo a similarly bad performance and not be subject to righteous indignation of fans who believe they are the better fans.

I don't know when everyone got so holier than thou around here because when the Pats lost 41-17 to the Chargers the season after our 3rd SB win in 4 years, no one seemed to have a problem with fans expressing their opinion.

But I tend to agree with you and Belichick - what happened in the past is irrelevant - its all about now. I think the players and fans would do well to keep that in mind.

Maybe from now on they will have Barney out there at the half singing his trademark song..

There are a few folks in here that would most definitely be deemed acceptable to put on the Vaunted Purple suit...

Then the BooBirds could take out their frustrations on him instead, and we can then go back to being one big Happy Family.

I think that fans have a right to act however they want. I think that fans also need to recognize that they contribute to the identity of their team.
The fans that booed the Pats as they lost to end a 21 game winning streak embarrassed the rest of the fans of this team, because they spoke nationally for all of us.
The message they sent: EVERYTHING THIS TEAM HAS DONE IS FORGOTTEN BY THE FANS AS SOON AS THEY PLAY POORLY.Thats it end of story. Booing a team indicates disgust with them. If the entire fan base of the New England Patriots is justified to be disgusted by anything that happens in one day after what the team has done over the last 7 years, then I am disgusted to be part of it.
It was immature, disrespectful, and thankless.

I think some of you cant make the distinction between bad game/loss and lack of effort. What happened on Sunday was the pats players not even trying to win the game. Listen if the players went out there gave it their all and got beat 50-0 I would be the first one to stand up and applaud them all the way to the locker room for their effort and for giving it their all.

On the other hand if I see that the team doesnt even want to be out there I will definately have a problem with it and you know what I might even boo. Bottom line the people booed the LACK OF EFFORT on the part of the players. They didn't even want to be out there, how else do you explain our DL being pushed back by scrubs all day.

Losses are to be expected and I have no problem with losing games it is part of the process. However what the fans expect is effort by the players at least to TRY to win the game and they(players) just didnt feel like it. What are the fans supposed to do applaud that?

Again there is a disctinction between losing a game and not even trying to win that game.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you exhibit A: Fan Ignorance Illustrated, in black and white. As long as there are people in the stands who righteously insist on being clueless, you will hear booing.

Thanks for the in depth analysis genious.

But he is right.
You said that the players didnt even try to win the game. How ignorant can you be.
What you are saying is you booed because its important to YOU that they win, but you determined that it wasnt important to THE PLAYERS.
That is about the most delusional thing I have ever heard.

Please detail for me all of the evidence that says they weren't trying to win. Specifically how YOU KNOW they werent trying. Not what they did poorly that you didn't like, but exactly the inistances where you saw they werent even trying.

Wow. This has got to be the worst list of analogies I have ever seen. You understand we are talking about booing a football team correct? What a laughable post, comparing booing the pats (after they stunk up the joint) to making fun of a disabled person?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!! Man, thanks for the laugh!

Can you read?
Do you understand the definition of COMPARE?
Are you capable of absorbing context to understand what is being compared?

The post was about the argument that "I have the right to boo".
The analogies were other rights that people have that only sleezy people would exercise.

Therefore, HAVING THE RIGHT does not make it right.

If you can read that post and honestly think I compared booing to making fun of a disabled person, you must immediately register to go back to school and I suggest you start in the first grade.
you are Billy Madison, arent you?

How about they got beat by the same play 4 times and ever adjusted to it? How abut gettig pushed around on both sides of the line? How about letting Chad Pennington have one of his best ever career days? How about letting the Phins receiving core look like the 2000 Rams?

Their performance was pathetic, people boo'd their effort, end of story. People have passion for this team.

Tell me, if you see your child dogging in in sports, you gonna be pissed that he just gave up or you gonna give him a gold star and tell him not to worry about it?

This is really parallel though.
There are many flaws in the comparison.
1) When you produce your product there isnt a competitor trying to prevent you from producing it.
2) I would imagine you are not in an industry where your production is acceptable 50% of the time and unacceptable 50% of the time (i.e. win or lose) and if you were I would imagine that 21 good productions in a row would earn you goodwill if the 22nd were subpar (again assuming you only have a 50/50 shot)
3) Your 'bad day' at work would have to affect your product, because thats what you are at work for.
4) I dont imagine your job parallels football in that you are 'live' once a week, and spend a week preparing for that, but rather that your work throughout the week contributes to the finished product.
There are just too many differences between a regular job and a football player, or teams job to make them parallel.

This translates tot he players "not trying" how? The single wing beat the Pats. If anything blame the coaches for not adjusting. Saying that you know the players weren't trying makes you sound like a joke.

There is a very simple question here.
ASSUIMNG we could agree on reasons to boo. Some offered here are "I think they aren't playing hard" "they stink today" etc.

Does your decision to boo or not boo depend at all on the teams track record.

In other words, if the Lions (worst record in the NFL the last x # of years) are losing 14-0 at half time and that warrants booing, is that rule, in your opinion EXACTLY the same for the Patriots, or do they get more latitude because of their success, tradition and results?
If the Patriots lose their next 12 games are you more likely to boo in the 13th than if they win the next 12?

So that play worked 4 times not because the defense was unprepared or confused, not because it was executed well, but because the defense said 'oh, they are in a single wing, lets not try'.
Define 'getting pushed around'? I think the Dolphins lines for the most part outplayed the Patriots lines. I dont think they 'pushed them around' but I cant see how we conclude its just not trying.
Pennington and his receivers played well. It was probably easier for them with the running game working. I didn't realize that the only way those players could play well was if we didn't try to stop them.
Damn, next time we play the Fins, I'm going to give each of our players a few extra dollars if they promise to try. I'll ask them if they want to win this time, and if they say yes, I'll bet my life savings on them, because I just learned that they are so good, all they have to do is try and the other team will suck.

Your argument is both lame and ignorant. Here is what you are arguing:

-I say it wasnt effort
-You say it was effort
-I ask you to give examples
-You give examples then you make the comment about my child acting as if I agree it was effrot and my point is based on that.
How can you honestly survive in society if you think they way to answer my comments are by asking why I believe what I just told you I don't.

Analogy.

Me: I don't think children should use drugs
You: Children use drugs all the time. How can you live with yourself when your kid gets addicted to drugs because you think its ok.

Actually I have a very simple approach to the issue of booing...

If you feel like Booing, Boo.

If you feel like Cheering Cheer.

If don't feel like doing either, do that.

Everyone has their own feelings about when it's appropriate or not. There's no right or wrong. MY view of when it's right or wrong isn't at issue and I don't need to justify that to anyone, whether they righteously believe I should have to do so or not.

The only problem I have is with this recent development where some fans want force their ideas of right and wrong on others, and declare that those who don't agree with them are lesser fans then they are.

Wouldnt that be a great world? Whatever you feel like doing, do.
Unfortunately in our world, there are consequences to what people do.

Your synopsis, where you are trying to tell me what you think other people are saying is bizarre in the least.
Where are fans FORCING THEIR IDEAS OF RIGHT AND WRONG ON OTHERS?
-If your answer is in the opinions given then everyone in this thread is doing that, not just the ones who disagree with you.
As for me, I'm not forcing my opinion on anyone. I am STATING MY OPINION. The fact that my opinion paints you in a poor light because I think your opinion is childish and immature does not mean I am forcing it upon you any more than you are forcing your opinion on me by stating it.

Please show me where anyone said either side of this argument makes anyone a lesser fan?????????????
-I haven't said that. I have only said that its a sign of poor character. The fact that people who booed the Patriots lack character doesn't mean they are lesser fans.
I think its obvious that those who booed are less APPRECIATVE of the accomplishments of the team, but I also dont think that makes them lesser fans necessarily.

You seem to have allowed your emotions on this topic confuse you on what the point of the discussion is.

Uhh yeah. Real fair analogy.. Booing in comparison to drug use

I love this logic. If you feel like raping Jessica Alba... do it.

You guys are joking right?

Or are you really comparing cheering or booing at a sports game to rape or drug use or any other actual actions of major consequence?

Are you guys even listening to yourselves?

People are going to express their opinion at sporting events whether you try to heap righteous shame on them or not. Accept it.

No in-depth analysis is required in response to a opinion that is naive, ignorant, and ridiculous on its face. You need to learn the difference between an opponent gaining the upper hand physically and strategically, and the home team "not trying to win." (As if all any team had to do was "try harder" and victory would be assured.)

I've spent time in NFL locker rooms and have interviewed many players over the years in a journalistic capacity, some of whom I got to know fairly well. I also have a degree in athletic coaching. I know what makes these people tick. Being booed ain't one of them. No one -- including you believe it or not -- cares more than THEY do about playing hard and performing well. There's simply too much at stake from a practical standpoint for them not to, let alone professional pride and a competitor's desire to win.

By the way, it's spelled g-e-n-i-u-s.

People are going to express their opinion at sporting events whether you try to heap righteous shame on them or not. Accept it.

People do all sorts of stupid, ignorant, naive things all the time. Why do we have to accept them just because they're commonplace?
