Agreed. Maroney is the most talented back on the team, and does a lot of things well. He's good in the passing game, and may evenually take over for Faulk on third down. He can block. He can make people miss in the open field.
But being the most talented doesn't mean he is the most effective. Is Lamont Jordan "better" ? Tough to say. Based on what I've seen from Maroney his first two + seasons, I think Maroney is an average 1st & 2nd down back, meaning, he doesn't start for more than half the teams in the league. Look at the starting backs around the league before you disagree.
Lamont Jordan is probably an average back on first & second down as well. So I dont think either is 'better', but I think Jordan may be able to pick up positive yardage and sustain drives more consistently than Maroney. I expect to see the two switching roles by week 5 ... Jordan the lead back and Maroney the C.O.P.
