Well ... how nice is this the Rays are in a slump and heading to Fenway 1.5 games up on our great Red Sox team. Paul Byrd is pitching as good or better than Curt Schilling would have pitched so we effectively have 4 strong starters right now in Beckett, Lester, Dice-K and Byrd. Things are looking real sweet even with JD Drew out and Jason Bay having a so-so kind of year. Kind of amazing how much the team has changed since the start of the season.

i didnt even mention the manny trade. how well is that working out. jason bay with another HR. mind boggling. they are so deep its crazy. i love it.

Manny is hitting .325 with 31 HR's and 102 RBI.

OBP of .425 and SLG of .583

Dodgers are 1.5 games on top of Arizona and neither has a shot at the wild card.

The remainder of the season is interesting indeed.

manny numbers dont translate to the sox. but lets not get that going again. i hope the dodgers get bounced. i want manny to be watching the playoffs from his living room.

Looks like both teams will be in the playoffs; question is who wins the AL East? Given the sweeps in each team's home series, it makes winning this series that much more important. They're down now and in a slump, with Crawford, Longoria and Upton hurt, and Baldelli at half speed; this is the time for the Sox to take over and not let them get back in it.

Both teams look like locks for the playoffs, so this series is not as big as the hype would suggest. Still, I am amazed that Francona refuses to pinch hit for Varitek. Francona has a 30+ man roster now with 4 catchers, yet he lets Varitek bat in the 7th and again in the 9th. By batting Varitek, the manager gave away an out in the ninth. Plus Papelbon and Varitek begin the ninth with 12 or more consecutive fastballs. Huh?

Part of the parcel really. Paps has blown a few, but won more than his fair share too. Just disappointing it was to the Rays. Varitek still around for next season? He's had an incredibly down year.

I think we'll overrun Tampa pending on the series down there.

What are the odds of the Jays catching the Sox? Minuscule. Keep the faith Sox fans. The sky's not falling. Pap has blown only 5 saves all season. He's still my closer.

nodody here has lost any faith. pap concerns me. hes still my closer also but he doesnt dominate like he used to. i dont care how many saves he has. he hasnt thrown a clean inning in ages . and he throws nothing but fastballs. thats not good. is the sky falling? no just pointing out what i see.
