I agree. But kennyb said that Polo is "small."Who cares. Rodgers is 6'2 and Brees is 6'0 and Wilson is 5'10.

Well that is not really he point here I think. If you want it could be changed to trading him to Chicago for Jeffrey or St Louis for a DE?
The point is what is his value at this point to the Patriots and would it should be to us.
I agree. But kennyb said that Polo is "small."
IMO he has two separate values:
1. The sole backup QB on a playoff-bound team halfway into its season
2. The long-term promising young backup to a 37-year-old QB
Sacrificing #1 places this season at risk. Imagine the 2001-2 AFCCG without a real QB who knew the offense to sub in when Brady was injured. (No, I'm not saying Gropp = Bledsoe; just that Late-Season-Street-FA = Loss.)
Sacrificing #2 will require spending another high draft pick in 2015...AND getting lucky with that pick. A reality check list of some other recent round-2 QBs: Jimmy Clausen, Brian Brohm, Pat White, Geno Smith.
I don't think any half-season rent-a-player is worth all of that. An impact player with another year on his contract or a significant package of draft picks would be required.
How has outplayed anyone? He has thrown 10 passes all in garbage time of blowouts. He has not passed any test because he has not had a test.
You are overhyping a player that you know very little about. He has a long way to go and many question marks unanswered. Zach Martin has actually passed the test with an A++ so I would make that trade in a minute without thinking twice. I think you and others forget Garopollo is not even signed through the season we are slated to need a QB to replace Brady.
Garoppolo has shown more promise than Mallett ever did. But of course this is impossible to discuss with you as you will never even entertain the thought that their will be a team after Brady.
To me Garoppolo has shown that he might become a good QB. That's worth a lot to me. I would never trade a potential franchise QB for a RB or OL when your current QB is 37 years old. We have seen how important good QB play is. Look at us, we have gone to the super bowl with an incredibly bad secondary in this passing league because Brady rocks. Meanwhile you have the Bills, Dolphins, and Jets. Three teams that have had some good players but have failed because their QB sucked.
If Brady was 25 then I would agree with you. But sadly he isn't. I know you will go with your classics like "He will never be as good as Brady". Of course he will most likely never match Bradys prime, few ever will. But Brady is closing on 40. That's a bit like 30 for running backs. Their play can worsen quickly. Then you will say how he was drafted in the second round and that franchise QBs are only drafted early in the first round, which is very ironic as you are a huge Brady fan. Then you will say how he is short, doesn't have the best arm and whatnot. To that I will say:
Again, this is not me saying that Garoppolo is future HOF QB or something like that. Just that he has shown enough for me to believe that he might be a good QB in the future and be a QB that we can with because of, not despite of. And to me that's worth way more than one 1st round pick when our current QB is 37.
In 4 years Jimmy Garopollo will be entering free agency. In 4 years time this thread may be bump worthy

1) I trust Bill and staff to be able to see whether he's got something or not in JAG after that amount of time. After all, they did it with TB after only one year. He didn't have to 'play a real game' to prove anything to them.
After his early struggles Tom Brady has rebounded to a 104.7 QB rating and is on pace for 4100 yards, 36 touchdowns, and just 4 interceptions. Clearly even at 37 he is still a top 3 QB in the NFL, and I do not see any significant drop off, I see no reason why this cannot continue until his likely retirement after the 2017 season. Brady has only missed time in 2008; an injury that occurred on a cheap illegal hit, outside of that he has been an ironman. With that all considered between now and his contract expiring after the 2017 season, when do you expect Garopollo to start and prove that he is a franchise QB? You see Marinlik it is not that I do not consider life after Tom Brady; I cannot see the Patriots paying Garopollo starter money when he has not started a game, and I cannot see them forgoing the opportunity to have 3-4 years of their starting QB on a rookie contract. My reason for trading Garopollo is that my belief has always been that the best time to draft Brady’s heir apparent is the 2016 draft, and the QB I would target would be Christian Hackenberg, so I actually have a vision. It is to bring back significant value for Garopollo in the form of a first round draft pick, giving us 2 first round picks so we can position ourselves to be able to draft Hackenberg. I have no issue with Garopollo; I just would prefer that the next QB is not starting his first NFL game at age 28, because in 5-6 years he will need a replacement groomed behind him.
The question is why do the Cowboys want Polo?
I defended Ryan Mallett who I think will become a good QB when Draftnik fools wanted to trade him, so they could Draft some fantasy Palooka from East Cupcake.
No the Draftnik fools would want to eliminate useless Backup QBs, and draft a Flavor of the day, like a stone hand WR who can run 4.4; or an OL that is only 275 Lbs; or a RB who is slow but makes up for it by being 380 Lbs.They don't.
It was an internet fan rumor made up by someone that didn't receive anything more than a passing glance outside of patsfans.com.
If it came down to it, I think Jones would have made a move for a veteran journeyman QB seeing as how they are 6-2. Breaking in a rookie isn't going to do you any good when you're battling for the #1 seed in the NFC (at least through the first half of the season).
Did you just manage to both praise and discredit Jimmy Garappolo in the same response?
He does not need to play another 5 years here; Garopollo was a second round pick so his contract is 4 years, after this season he will be under contract for 3 more. It does not matter what the coaches see in Garopollo if he wants to walk in UFA he will walk in UFA and do you think the Patriots will overpay for him if he has never started a game? If he is as promising as you and some feel (not that I even disagree) what is to stop another team from offering him a huge contract, are you going to tag Jimmy Garopollo based on what he has done in practice, the preseason, and garbage time? Brady barring injury will play out his contract, Belichick is not going to push out the door, he is still a top 3 QB and the best option for Belichick to win a Super Bowl title, if Kurt Warner can play well in his 40s Tom Brady certainly can too.1) I trust Bill and staff to be able to see whether he's got something or not in JAG after that amount of time. After all, they did it with TB after only one year. He didn't have to 'play a real game' to prove anything to them.
2) You can be as blase as you like about imjuries, but the fact is, Brady has had little nagging injuries many times over the years, some of which have affected his play. Going forward, one of the effects of getting older are that those kind of things will linger longer and have more of an effect. Having a viable player who can step in and win a game or two if necessary is important.
3) I don't for a minute think TB will play another 5 years here.
